About the Position:
This position is located at Fort Polk, Louisiana. The surrounding community is comprised of the towns of Leesville, DeRidder, New Llano, & Anacoco. The nearest cities are Alexandria & Lake Charles. The area is considered rural with the Kisatchie National Forest, which offers hunting and recreational activities, located nearby. Also located nearby are Toledo Bend Lake, Vernon Lake & Anacoco Lake for those interested in fishing, boating, swimming, etc.
Conducts warehouse inventories, maintaining tally listings during the count to assist in determining the reasons for overages, shortages, or misplaced items
Signs shipping and prepares receiving reports for locally purchased items, and reports overages, shortages, or damaged items to supervisor or other responsible person according to established procedures
Selects and sets up proper storage areas for material within the general warehousing plan considering size, shape, quantity, use, and possibility of damage or deterioration, and contamination to or from other items
Uses automated inventory, receipts, and stock status equipment such as a hand held terminal or computer terminal for material status input/output
Establishes the order in which receives, unloads, and processes incoming shipments of items arriving via various modes of transportation
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
This position may require working on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis necessary to meet mission requirements.
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain forklift certification within six (6) months of employment.
This position requires pre-employment physical examination.
This position requires business travel/TDY up to 10% of the time.
This position is Non-Sensitive and requires a Tier 1 NACI background investigation.

Ability to do the work of a Materials Handler (FLO) without more than normal supervision performing common tasks involving receiving, locating and storing materials or equipment in accordance with established procedures and operation requirements and the ability to operate a forklift, working under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews work for completion. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

The worker is required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. They frequently lift or carry items weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted. The heavier items (up to 70 pounds) are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.
The work is performed inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. The worker is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. The worker may be subject to exposure from toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes when working in hazardous materials areas. The work may require wearing protective clothing such as hardhats, steel toes shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons.
