Prior experience working in education is not required. Experience in customer service, banking, collections, financial services, counseling, sales, call center operations or other relevant environments is preferred, but not required. A Finance Advisor delivers on AIU’s commitment of service and excellence to its students by building rapport, delivering clear and accurate information, offering effective solutions and maintaining contact with individuals through the financial aid process.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide an overview of the financial aid process and programs available to qualifying students.
  • Counsel students regarding financial aid paperwork, award information and options for covering education expenses.
  • Evaluate submitted documentation and determine additional requirements.
  • Calculate tuition and financial aid based on a student’s schedule and unique eligibility.
  • Deliver the highest level of service to students and others, while achieving performance metrics.
  • Comply with Title IV, state, military, VA and institutional requirements and standards.
  • Review changes to financial aid eligibility throughout the program.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, Competencies

  • High School diploma or its equivalent.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to quickly navigate web-based resources.
  • Entry-level experience in customer service, banking, collections, financial services, counseling, sales, call center operations or other related fields; more experience is preferred.
  • The ability and desire to create genuine relationships over the phone for the purpose of helping prospective students understand their financial aid options.
  • A positive attitude and commitment to work with a team and achieve team goals, while also working independently as an individual contributor.
  • Ability to interpret and apply internal and government policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Perform numeric calculations, including gross and net amounts based on percentages.
  • Simplify complex information and effectively communicate options and answer questions.
  • Ability to apply concepts from instructions and data provided in written, oral, diagram and schedule form.
  • Proficient in sorting, filtering, finding and adjusting data in spreadsheets.
  • Approach assigned tasks with a sense of urgency and an attention to detail.
  • Utilize active listening skills and patience to effectively problem solve.
