The purpose of this job is to perform skilled maintenance and repair of the city water treatment plant. Uses a variety of heavy equipment and power tools. Troubleshoots and diagnoses mechanical defects and repairs equipment in safe and efficient manner.

- Maintains and repairs plant facilities and equipment.

Trains coworkers on repair and maintenance tasks.

Diagnoses mechanical defects and repairs devices.

Operates power tools and heavy equipment in plant maintenance and repair activities.

Performs electrical and plumbing work including replacing fixtures, switches, receptacles, wiring, faucets, valves, and lines.

Assists in upgrading of plant equipment.

Works with supervisor or lead mechanic to order parts and materials.

Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent.

Three years of experience in mechanical maintenance and repair.
Licenses or Certifications

Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no air brake restriction within 6 months of hire.

Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions assigned to work on-call in the Utilities Department are required to maintain a telephone and permanent residence within 50 road miles of City Hall, 701 E. Broadway, Columbia, MO, within 90 days of hire.

Starting Salary
$22.47 - $32.80 per hour (Minimum to maximum) Annual ($46,727 - $68,222) Minimum to maximum. Commensurate with training and experience.
