Project Engineer, Utility Coordination

CobbFendley is a multi-discipline firm founded in 1980 in Houston, Texas, providing engineering and surveying services. The Utility Coordination Department is seeking a Project Engineer for the Houston, Texas office.

The successful candidate’s most important qualifications include:
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
Obtain E.I.T. certificate within six months and plans to pursue Professional Licensure.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Motivated to learn in a dynamic environment with short deadlines.

Essential Functions:
Request design drawings from various utilities as required for use in project designs.
Set up and maintain electronic files for received utility drawings.
Research ongoing/future CIP projects for various cities/counties within project boundaries.
Assist in preparing cost estimates.
Assist in setting up and maintaining project electronic files.
Assist in developing/maintaining project schedules.
Assist in maintaining client exhibits (KMZ & GIS) which define project scope of work.
Assist in project route analysis and high-level design.
Assist in coordinating field investigating requests.
Assist in reviewing design drawings (QA/QC).
Assist in reviewing permit drawings (QA/QC).
Assist in reviewing GIS geodatabase deliverables (QA/QC).
Assist in updating internal and client project trackers.
Assist in keeping abreast of design changes from clients.
Assist in responding to design questions from CAD Technicians.
Assist in responding to fiber network questions from GIS Technicians.
Assist in responding to request from clients.
Learn and maintain knowledge of client standards, rules and requirements for planning, construction and documentation.

Physical Requirements:
Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time.
Mobility within the office including movement between floors and workstations.
Repeated motions (i.e.-typing, reaching, bending, lifting and carrying).
Communication with other employees and clients.

Environmental Factors:
Most work is performed in a professional office environment. Some trips to client offices and job sites for observations will be required.
Job site observations factors could include: walking and climbing on uneven surfaces, exposure to outdoor environments and extreme weather (heat and freezing temperatures), noise exposure, driving for extended periods of time, exposure to allergens (i.e. pollen, dust, cedar, sumac, poison ivy, etc.), exposure to construction and traffic work zones, possible hand and power tool use, and extended periods of Personal Protective Equipment use.
Extended use of electronic devices (i.e.-computers, printers, copiers, scanners, plotters and telephones).
Use of cutting tools and equipment (plotting equipment, rotary paper cutter, etc.).

Expected hours of work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. Travel may be required.
This position reports to the Department Manager.
