PRIMARY FUNCTION: Plans, implements, supervises and evaluates activities provided in within a specific program area, such as Education, Special Education, Social Recreation, Arts & Crafts, and Physical Education.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities): Prepare Youth for Success 1. Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes in the following 5 core areas: (1) Education/Career Development (2) Character Leadership Development (3) Health/ Life Skills (4) Sports/ Fitness/Recreation (5) Arts/ Crafts 2. Assist in member recruitment, participate in their club orientation process; provide guidance and a worthy mentor role modeling to members according to the BGCA Code of Ethics, mentoring standards and BGC McAllen’s Mentoring 101 strategies. 3. Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/ activities and receive instructions and constructive feedback to develop skills in the program area(s). 4. Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety, and development of members. Program Development and Implementation 5. Effectively implement and administer programs, services, and activities for drop-in members and visitors. 6. Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure the safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the branch at all times. Prepare periodic activity and attendance reports. 7. May participate in special programs and/or events. 8. Other duties as assigned. Supervision 9. Ensure a productive work environment by participating in unit staff meetings.
RELATIONSHIPS: Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise counsel. External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, member’s parents, and others to assist in resolving problems.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED High School diploma or equivalent; Experience in working with children; Knowledge of youth development; Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems; Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment; Demonstrate skills both verbal and written to communicate with a diverse population of members, as well as adults. CERTIFICATION/ ASSOCIATION; Must be registered with the Boys & Girls Club of America (www.bgca.net). * ; Become CPR/First Aid certified; Complete and become certified in at least (5) courses offered through Leadership University: School of Youth Development. (CORE, Fundamentals of a Boys and Girls Club, Child Safety, Mentoring at the Boys & Girls Club, and Providing Informal Guidance and Discipline Techniques); Complete and become certified in the area of interest or skill in courses offered through Leadership University: School of Youth Development. Unit Directors/ Site Coordinators will assign these courses as needed; Must attend and complete a minimum of (2) National Program training offered through Boys & Girls of America or Boys & Girls Club of McAllen.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: May lift boxes for supplies and inventory. Site, hearing, standing for more than four hours each day and other physical requirements needed to complete the essential functions of the positions.
