I’m Staff Sergeant Seth Heritage with the Ohio Army National Guard located in Kent, Ohio and the recruiter for Kent State University and the surrounding high schools. I’m posting this to see if you would be interested in talking with me about the Guard and what we have to offer in way of educational benefits, adventure, training, and service to the community and country for you after you graduate. I know that sometimes not knowing what you’re doing or where you’re going after graduation can be a little unsettling. You may be wondering what you’ll do or how you’ll pay for college. Or you're just stuck in a job that doesn't seem to be leading anywhere.

Possibly you’re tired of the way life is going and need to make a change to better your life? You might even have questions about how you are going to accomplish all your goals you have set for yourself. The National Guard can help you on your way to the future. The Ohio Army National Guard provides people with a PART-TIME job, new skills, experience, adventure and civilian education! Here are some of the benefits we have to offer and if you have a question about anything please give me a call or send me a text.

PAY : As a new soldier in the National Guard, you would earn about $200.00 for your weekend drills, $1500.00 a month at basic and job training, and about $760.00 for your 2 week annual training(after basic training). On average, you work 39 days a year—one weekend a month and 2 weeks every summer! And of course, the pay increases the longer you are in and when you are promoted!! Pay begins the day you enlist, even if you are STILL in high school!

EDUCATION : Every person who enlists for 6 years in the Ohio Army National Guard receives a 100% tuition scholarship to any public college and many technical schools in Ohio. If you go to a private college, the Ohio Army National Guard will pay up to the average 100% tuition cost of a public school. This is a National Guard benefit that no other branch offers!

MONTGOMERY GI BILL : As a Soldier in the Guard, you will receive the GI Bill of $386 per month (tax free) while you’re in college. You must enlist for the 6 year contract to receive this benefit.

JOB SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE : The National Guard offers jobs in many areas that you can use in your civilian life. After all, every employer wants to hire someone who knows how to do the job! There are many combat and support positions available to choose from.

SERVICE TO COMMUNITY AND COUNTRY : We are the only military component with a dual mission. We are called upon to help our State in times of emergency (floods, hurricanes, tornados) and our Country at times when our national security is at risk. NO OTHER BRANCH has this kind of responsibility. You can make the Ohio Army National Guard a 3 year adventure or a 20 year career. The choice is yours. If you have any questions or want more information please give me a call or text.
