Job Title: Roaster’s Assistant
Reports To: Los Angeles Lead Roaster
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Customary Work Days: Monday – Friday (Part – Time) Saturday & Sunday may be added as work level dictates.
Customary Work Hours: Varies by workflow and need. Hours are extended when workload is increased

This position assists roasters with all necessary roast preparation activities and work area maintenance. The Assistant will be responsible for ensuring the roasters are moving at an efficient pace to ensure orders are fulfilled and quality assurance work is being performed on a daily basis.
Duties & Responsibilities
Batch green coffee into buckets as directed by Lead Roaster and our inventory system.
Attach identified tag to each batch of prepared coffee and line up loads in order of importance.
Maintain an accurate read on inventory levels for Production.
Assist Roasters with Gothot Roasting machine cleaning.
Keep roast area in clean, orderly state throughout the day, including sweeping, stacking empty jute bags and pallets, dusting lids, disposing of used bin liners, organizing bin tags.
Keep empty roasted bins organized and ready for use.
Unload deliveries of green coffee.
Responsible for the re-palletization/strapping of incoming coffees.
Set up daily cuppings and participate if time permitting.
Update computer system ensuring accurate records for Quality Control and inventory management.
Set up, break down, record and communicate all quality control sessions.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required AND a background in the coffee industry is preferred.

Warehouse environment. Not climate controlled.
Roast machines have gas burners and hot surfaces. Careful attention to detail is needed to prevent fires.
Green coffee is somewhat dusty.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
