Maintenance Technician

Brevard Zoo - Melbourne, FL


This is a Full-time, Hourly Non-exempt position with full benefits (avg 40hrs/week). This individual works with a team of four other maintenance technicians sometimes alongside an equal crew of construction team members to keep Brevard Zoo looking and running at peak condition!

Job Summary

Performs, but not limited to, zoo construction projects & maintenance of the zoo property.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Perform general construction duties including but not limited to carpentry, drywall, masonry, welding, light electrical, simple plumbing, and general maintenance and repair.
  • Operate tractors, loaders and other heavy equipment.
  • Operate power tools and related safety equipment.
  • Read and properly interpret building plans.
  • Report to supervisor the need for materials and supplies to complete projects.
  • Work with outside trades, contractors, and volunteer crews as needed.
  • Performs other zoo construction and maintenance duties as required for zoo operations.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A minimum of four years of construction and/or maintenance of facilities and experience involving the major building trades.
  • Operate power tools and related safety equipment.
  • Knowledge of complex plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general construction principals.
  • Masonry experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills necessary for daily operations.
