Fast-paced immigration law firm in West Bloomfield, MI has an opening for an Immigration Paralegal. We specialize in the preparation and legal consultation for non-immigrant employment based visas and green cards primarily for individuals in professional and technical fields. Most of our clients are businesses that require our legal expertise to help them fulfill the current demand for engineering, medical, and information technology employees by providing full service employment-based immigration law advice and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service petition preparation. Due to the growth of the practice and high demand for immigration law specialization, we are seeking additional individuals for these positions.
We are seeking an individual with excellent writing and oral communication skills. Our firm specializes in immigration law, in particular, Employment-Based Visas and Adjustment of Status Applications (Permanent Residency) that are sponsored by businesses in the United States. This is a full-time position and the firm would like the candidate to regard it as a long-term position. The paralegal answers many phone calls throughout the day so he/she must have excellent oral communication skills and ability to understand clients with foreign accents. Additional necessary skills include letter writing, filing, proficiency in Microsoft Office, well as the ability to interact with officers at government agencies, i.e. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (formerly INS), U.S. Department of Homeland Security, consulates, etc.
The primary duties of the position are the preparation of forms, documentation, and applications for filing Employment-Based Visas and Permanent Residency/Green Cards with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Although there will be some over the phone client contact, legal advice and expertise is solely the responsibility of the attorneys.
Requirements: The requirements of the position are basic office skills including the use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Excel. The majority of the tasks in the preparation of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service Visa and Green Card applications, including the use of immigration software (INSZOOM), will be taught on the job. There is roughly a two-week to one-month learning curve for the necessary skills of the position, and all training will be provided by the attorneys and staff. Mastery in the area of immigration law is NOT a requirement, however, familiarity/experience in business immigration is of high value. Obviously, we are seeking an industrious and hardworking individual willing to work 40 hours per week. Flexibility to work additional hours during busy season(s) is also needed.
