SFI is growing! We're looking for a System Engineer to join our team in Ronkonkoma, NY!

Systems Engineer will develop integrated system requirements and proposed design solutions. Researches and documents analysis in technical reports and presents findings and recommendations to meet program requirements. Anticipates and addresses problems of systems integration, compatibility, and multiple platforms. Troubleshoots and resolves performance problems.

Primary Responsibilities:
Demonstrated ability to manage the technical systems engineering life cycle(s) including requirements analysis, configuration, design, development, testing and deployment of systems. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot high-level technical and non-technical issues. Experience in evaluating, testing, deploying and maintaining both custom developed and third-party software upgrades. Demonstrated ability in creating and maintaining system architecture and troubleshooting documentation. Experience with performing engineering and/or scientific research, studies and analysis of specified technological, scientific programmatic and operational issues. Demonstrated ability to prepare plans and assessments, such as management engineering plans, integrated support plans, and implementation plans.

Ø Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements

Ø Assist coordinators and TMC’s in obtaining an acceptable level of traffic at each adapted departure fix

Ø Administer Support Briefings on DSP hardware

Ø Troubleshoot high-level technical and non-technical issues

Ø Assist with the configuration and operation of client-based computer operating systems

Ø Assist with hardware troubleshooting and maintenance

Ø Support basic IT issues such as password resets, peripheral configurations, hardware diagnostics, and coordinate repairs

Ø Upgrade firmware

Ø Assist supporting COTS products

Ø Assist performing hardware buildouts

Ø Build custom images to conform to client security benchmarks

Ø Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media and media is recycled

Ø Repair and recover from hardware or software failures and communicate with impacted constituencies

Ø Assist configure networking services and protocols

Basic Qualifications

Ø Bachelor’s degree (in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or related field is preferred) +5 yrs. related experience

Ø Must have a solid understanding of fundamental network design and operation

Ø Knowledge using Red Hat software suite (red Hat 5 and above)

Ø Experience working with HP, Dell and Cisco products

Ø Knowledge working with HP OpenView, LoadRunner, VMWare, Rational software, Oracle, DOORS, SQL, Linux, Unix, and Java

Ø Knowledge of system vulnerabilities and security issues

Ø Must have a strong DSP background

Ø Problem Solving, Strategic Planning, Multi-tasking, Quality Focus, Technical Understanding, Quick Study

Other Information:
Ø Ability to work Monday thru Friday 12pm to 8pm with occasionally being on-call

Ø Ability to travel if needed

Ø Ability to work efficiently individually or in a team environment

Ø Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
