The Safety Specialist will coordinate the AGH WorkSAFE Council and Employee Safety initiatives to reduce employee injuries. Conduct environment of care / life safety rounds to identify and correct deficiencies on both campuses and off-site facilities. Provide support to Senior Safety Specialist(s) in meeting Allegheny's environmental, life safety and safety directives and / or programs.
Coordinate Employee Safety initiatives to reduce employee injuries; leads the AGH WorkSAFE Council activities. (30%)
Conduct environmental and life safety inspections to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory agency standards, Instruct management and employees as to the purpose of the inspection, regulation and recommended corrective action necessary. Provide follow-up to ensure compliance on an on-going basis. Notify appropriate individuals within the organization of appropriate action required. (30%)
Support the Senior Safety Specialists and Director in meeting Allegheny's environmental, life safety and safety directives and / or programs. (20%)
Actively participate in and assist in the facilitation of New Hire Orientation, annual education programs and other courses offered by Employee Safety. (10%)
Respond to and may initiate remediation of hazardous materials spills, fires and other safety related incidents during the work shift; with emphasis on the protection of life safety, property conservation, business continuity and environmental protection. The incumbent has the authority to command internal and external resources within the scope of his / her duties. (5%)

Associate's degree in Safety, Emergency Management or Fire Protection
year manage meetings in a productive fashion with staff with various levels of education and potentially adversarial attitudes.
year conduct inspections and educate staff on the need for regulatory compliance, especially with staff that have been non-compliant previously.
year developing programs to meeting department goals, initiatives.
year educate / instruct staff with various education levels (i.e. GED to PHD) from either prepared programs or spontaneous situations.
Bachelor's degree in Safety, Emergency Management or Fire Protection
year experience in the healthcare environment .
OSHA 1910.120q Hazardous Materials Operations certification
NBFSPQ Fire Inspector 1
OSHA 1910.120q Hazardous Materials Technician certification
NBFSPQ Fire Instructor 1 or Public Fire & Life Safety Educator or equivalent
OSHA 30 hour General Industry training
OSHA 30 hour construction training
