Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for Records Manager/Evidence Custodian in the Public Safety Department. This position maintains all inventory, records, and files pertaining to the receipt, storage, and disposition of property and evidence in accordance with state laws and agency policies and procedures. Plans, organizes, directs, reviews, coordinates, and establishes controls for all Department records activities; releases evidentiary items to authorized law enforcement personnel. Serves as the department/agency senior technical expert on agency-wide electronic and non-electronic records management issues. Safeguards integrity of chain-of-custody; ensures hazardous materials evidence is appropriately handled, identified, contained, stored, transported, tested and disposed of legally; works closely and proactively with legal counsel within the department to ensure records information assets are managed to ensure government accountability, protect the interest of the public, and mitigate records related litigation; audits items against information available in multi-agency computer information systems. Testifies in court as required by subpoena or represents the Department at public hearings, and meetings; assists in the preparation of photographic exhibits for judicial proceedings and provides testimony. Ensures an adequate level of departmental supplies are ordered; maintains storage area. May be directed to perform job related tasks other than those specifically delineate in this description. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma preferred; two years of law enforcement experience. Demonstrated ability to understand and follow oral and written communication including by telephone and radio. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly with tact and courtesy; and be calm during stressful situations. Must be a sworn law enforcement officer with flexibility to work day and night shifts. Background and or credit check may be required.
