Burris Logistics is looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join the team and hit the ground running. This team member will work with technical, warehouse, and office personnel, providing direct support to IT users ensuring effective delivery of highly available IT systems and services through the design, engineering, systems architecture and operations for a large Linux and/or Windows environment.

Essential Functions

Design and engineer the systems/network architecture for the operations of a large (Linux and/or Windows) environment
Receive and process requests for new IT hardware/software items for infrastructure environment
Evaluate, recommend, and implement hardware and software to successfully manage technical and business services that meet or exceed stated objectives
Manage infrastructure oriented technical services, projects, workflow, processes and systems
Direct vendors and provide guidance for documenting design standards and engineering solutions
Configure, maintain, monitor and conduct system performance and operations management to ensure smooth operation and overall efficiency of the server environment by ensuring that all computer systems are stable, efficient, effective, current, reliable, tuned and accessible in accordance with service level objectives for all mission critical services supporting business functions and perform maintenance as required to ensure stability, availability, and reliability of applications
Perform upgrades and patching; managing and monitoring of system; performance monitoring and tuning; and maintain alert / notification tools
Analyze and resolve problems associated with server hardware and applications software and actively seek, diagnose, and report problems
Maintain and use work order system to create, notate, resolve and close all completed tasks, while being aware of workload and adjust priorities as required to meet business needs
Plan, design, install and maintain RF Networks, access point and antenna locations, monitoring and ensuring coverage and determining peripheral needs
Maintain IT facilities, including UPS, generator, and HVAC systems
Perform hardware set-up, software installation / configuration, and administration of the systems environment
Develop and maintain Shell scripts such as Korn, C Shell, and Bash to automate systems and application processes
Work collaboratively and consult with vendors, consultants and stakeholders on infrastructure oriented technical services, projects, workflow, processes and systems in order to develop effective solutions which meet technical standards and business requirements to ensure the best outcome
Plan and design LAN cabling
Maintain service contracts, inventory, and necessary spares for all systems and devices within scope of responsibility
Provide/facilitate training/instruction as required to ensure technical staff proficiency at delivering quality IT support services in a timely manner
Actively support and perform deployment of in-house and third-party applications
Build and maintain technical and operational level documentation to ensure systems can be supported and maintained by technical staff
Provide expert technical input and support for engineering network and telecommunication solutions based on business needs, recognized standards, and best practices
Work closely with upper management to upgrade or create designs that meet business needs
Work with peers to assist and support all business and IT initiatives
Follow all Change Management and Acceptance Testing processes
Create, update, validate, or improve processes for performing change and quality assurance checks
Assist in the development of planned fiscal budget(s)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education - High school
diploma or GED. College coursework, continuing technical education or comparable business experience preferred
4-5 years of infrastructure experience
Professional level certifications (e.g. Cisco CCNP, Microsoft MCSE, VMWare, vSphere, Solarwinds/ORION) or equivalent experience preferred
WiFi certification desired
Proven ability to creatively lead and direct the work of others utilizing a wide degree of latitude
General understanding of Windows operating systems and server components
Experience with multiple operating systems is a plus
Proficient in computer usage to include email, word processing, spreadsheets
Ability to utilize equipment for the job(such as computers, cell phone, handheld trackers, copiers, scanners, printers, etc.)
Understanding of relational databases and server requirements to provide a stable, reliable infrastructure
Understand troubleshooting and repair of
Windows/Linux based software, PC’s, notebooks, thin clients, monitors, RF handhelds, RF vehicle mounted units, RF Access points, other peripherals telephony devices, network devices, network and communications cabling, servers, operating systems, and utility and productivity software
Possess working knowledge of various RF systems and peripherals
Possess working knowledge of telecom/telephony systems and devices
Ability to gather metrics and monitor systems at all levels including low level system calls to user space applications to insure that Service Level Objectives are met
Knowledge and ability to work with contractors and vendors supplying infrastructure and facilities’ needs
Working knowledge of disk and RAID Group configurations; volume management, and back-up/recovery strategies
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions
Ability to perform complex jobs and procedures with minimal supervision or assistance
Ability to perform on-call and other duties for 24x7x365 operations
Ability to speak and understand English
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions
Ability to Travel (25%)
Physical Demands

Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs frequently and 75 pounds infrequently while lifting/moving/installing computers, printers, peripherals and associated supplies
May require prolonged sitting at a desk utilizing a computer terminal or workstation
Must be able to sit on an almost continual basis and stand, walk, bend, or squat on an occasional basis in a normal office environment
Must be able to adjust to fluctuating temperatures and occasionally withstand freezing temperatures as low as -20 degrees Fahrenheit
Must be able to occasionally work in a noisy warehouse environment
Must be able to work under fluorescent lighting
Must be able to work while wearing appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for the job (such as steel-toed protective footwear, harness, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, insulated clothing, etc.)
May be exposed to products which may contain food allergens (such as fish, shellfish, peanuts, etc.)
