LyondellBasell is searching for a Machinery Reliability Engineering Manager for the Channelview, TX complex. Our 4,000-acre Channelview complex consists of two olefin units at the north side facility that manufacture ethylene, propylene, butadiene and benzene. The south side facility uses many of these products to produce propylene oxide, styrene monomer and other derivatives. Channelview is 18 short miles from downtown Houston. This leadership role is one of three key Reliability Engineering Management roles that lead the organization in delivering reliability and maintenance engineering support at the Channelview Site. This position is responsible for leading efforts to improve the safety, reliability and cost of ownership of all Rotating Equipment across the Channelview Site and ensuring the Machinery technical team has the tools, skills and competencies to deliver results. The role is highly technical and requires an individual with a balance of technical expertise and leadership skills. As a member of the Extended Leadership Team at Channelview, the candidate will work closely with peers in Operations, Maintenance, and other engineering disciplines to achieve excellence in machinery performance.
Lead the high performing twenty-two-member team of engineers, specialists, and a team leader that are the Machinery Reliability Group who oversee strategic and tactical coverage at the facility
Ensure a supportive and challenging developmental environment for the Machinery team with a clear succession plan of our future leaders and technical experts in rotating equipment
Provide leadership and coaching to a team leader who leads a team of rotating equipment technical experts
Champion of the site Rotating Equipment Long Range Plan ensuring the plan is maintained and supported to deliver reliability targets of individual assets and unit reliability & availability targets
Drive continuous improvement in site performance and seeks to utilize the latest technologies.
Ensure consistent adherence to site Machinery workflow processes and oversee the reporting of site Machinery KPI’s.
Owner of the Preventive Maintenance (PM) strategies for rotating equipment and responsible for ensuring PM strategies for effectiveness and recommend modifications are evergreen and deliver results in equipment reliability and maintenance efficiency
Lead the site’s Condition Monitoring Program and verifies effectiveness in improving equipment performance
Assure that the site is set up for successful maintenance of rotating equipment by maintaining and auditing the key components of BOM's and spare parts descriptions and lead efforts to ensure spare parts kits are in excellent condition and ready for use at any time
Ownership of rotating equipment related site procedures and responsible for ensuring the application of engineering standards at the site
Seek to constantly improve workflows in ways that improves the Machinery Team’s support of operations and maintenance processes through engagement and assurance activities
Ensure RCFA (root cause failure analysis) investigation techniques are applied to equipment failures and that lessons learned are shared and applied to the site’s rotating equipment reliability and maintenance strategy
Lead site efforts to identify and eliminate bad actors
Key leader in optimizing existing vendor alliances and committed business agreements while also investigating future alternatives to support long range objectives in technology advancements, reliability improvements, and cost reductions
Represent LyondellBasell and the Channelview Site in industry and professional organizations, users groups, and other organizations that deal with rotating equipment reliability
Required: Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with 10 years of minimum industry experience, with the majority of time working with Rotating Equipment. A minimum of 3 years of supervision experience is required.
Strong working knowledge of pumps, compressors, steam turbines, and mechanical seals is required, as is a working knowledge of applicable API standards.
Working knowledge of vibration analysis and other condition monitoring techniques is required. Level II Certification or greater through Vibration Institute preferred.
Experience performing equipment troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis is required.
Licensure as a Professional Engineer is preferred.
