Job Summary: Provides professional, comprehensive family health care in an adult primary care setting at Kenner Army Health Clinic at Fort Lee. Assesses, plans, treats, counsels, and provides guidance and instructions to patients with a variety of common, acute and chronic illnesses. Works as a primary health care provider in an outpatient setting. Manages, interdependently, the care of patients within established protocols approved by the Credentials Committee. Provides urgent and non-urgent care for adult patients of all ages. Obtains a health history from the patient and records findings. Performs and/or requests special screening tests, requests laboratory tests and x-rays and uses the results in assessing the patient’s medical problems. Identifies and manages specific illnesses. Develops, implements, and evaluates the treatment plans. Makes judgments about the use of medications and treatment, prescribing appropriate medications and treatments based on protocols. Obtains physician consultation when appropriate. Provides advice and/or screens patients by telephone and in person to determine nature and urgency of their problems. Assumes continuing responsibility for informing patients about implications to health status, treatment, prognosis through counseling and health teaching. Assesses and interprets patients’ needs to medical and/or nursing staff and other members of the health team. Coordinates inpatient/outpatient aspects of patient care. Develops and provides health promotional service.
Job Requirements: Must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant training program that is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (or previously recognized accrediting body). Physician Assistant is required to possess current certification by the NCCPA before regular clinical privileges are granted. Must be licensed in any of US state or territory (Virginia licensure preferred). Must possess or be able to quickly obtain an American Heart Association Basic Life Support certificate.'
