What is a Director – IT Business Office?
This is a senior leadership role within the Information Technology (IT) team. Reporting directly to the CIO/CTO, the Director – IT Business Office oversees IT strategy and planning, governance, operating and financial performance, and vendor and contract management. The Director – IT Business Office provides leadership for the cross functional management of information and technology across the Company, working closely with both IT leadership and other business leaders.
What does a Director – IT Business Office do?
The Director – IT Business Office is responsible for the following:
Oversees the functions of the IT Business Office, including planning, budgeting, development and implementation of “best practices” policies, procedures and standards for IT functions
Supervises the resources of the IT Business Office with a focus on developing future leaders
Partners with the IT team and business counterparts on developing and executing strategy and planning and measuring IT programs and projects
Applies advanced knowledge and skills in assessing business requirements and delivering solutions to complex problems requiring a high degree of ingenuity and innovation
Analyzes and executes on strategic sourcing strategy and options for key services such as IT project delivery, systems management, technical support and application support
Responsible for defining IT roles, processes, frameworks, associated training curriculums, the execution of IT wide training programs, and ongoing mentorship
Partners with peers to oversee IT delivery by strategic partners and monitors their performance versus defined goals and measures
Establishes and maintains a high level of business function trust and confidence in IT’s knowledge of, and concern for, business issues
Creates and sustains business literacy and understanding of business processes within the IT team
Understands the enterprise’s core IT competencies and the value they bring to business processes for a competitive advantage
What does it take to be a Director – IT Business Office?
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Management or related field of study
At least 10 years of related professional experience in a complex, dynamic business and technology environment including experience in a management position
Significant experience with the software development life cycle (SDLC), IT project lifecycles and various project management approaches
Experience with the definition, training, implementation, continuous improvement, and ongoing mentorship of project management best practices
Experience leading teams both directly and in a matrixed environment
Experience with IT project portfolio management and exposure to PPM tools
Experience partnering with business teams in the definition and execution of business strategy
Experience with strategic sourcing including contract negotiations, metrics reporting, and overall partnership cultivation
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels
Experience with IT financial management
Familiarity with project governance including ensuring the strategic alignment of projects and programs
Familiarity with project portfolio and business request planning and prioritization
Valid driver’s license
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Management or related field of study
5 years of experience in a management position
Experience in Energy & Utilities or services industry
Experience in a co-sourced environment
Hands on experience managing large, transformational projects
Experience with Organizational Change Management (OCM) including leading change initiatives
Experience with PPM tools, including Planview (formerly Innotas)
