Nearpod is looking for an experienced Vice President of Human Resources to lead and develop HR strategies for our growing company. We are looking for a leader with successful track record leading HR initiatives while growing and maintaining the growing employee infrastructure. This position is a member of the leadership team and is responsible for directing HR including employment, compensation administration, employee relations, benefits administration, training, organizational and cultural development, executive coaching, change management, performance management, succession planning and individual development planning. This position reports directly to the CFO and is key in partnering with business leaders to help the business achieve its business objectives.
Role & Responsibilities
Serve as a key member of the leadership team, setting and driving the people strategy for Nearpod
Work in close partnership with the executive team to ensure overall alignment of the workforce plan and execution of plan
Bring best practice and external perspectives to strategic and operational business discussions and people management decision-making
Coach leaders on people-related matters. Support the resolution of complex people and employee relations issues
Oversee Compensation, Benefits, and Payroll
Plan employee benefits, health, and wellness programs
Responsible for learning and development programs; individual performance management and goal alignment processes and systems; organization effectiveness methodologies, tools, and solutions; culture and communications and talent management processes
Build and retain a passionate group of human resources professionals
Oversee the entire recruitment life cycle for all employees, leveraging strategic sourcing skills to identify and compose a diverse workforce
Develop best in class hiring processes for hiring manager focusing on transparency and candidate experience
Learning and Development:
Support leaders in building a strong leadership pipeline. Build and coach high performing teams across the company
Develop and implement training strategies to meet employee needs, including supervisory training. Design, implement, and deliver training programs for compliance and professional development.
Develop a roadmap for talent assessment, professional development and performance, ensuring there is a focus on professional development for team members at all levels
Empower employees to feel ownership over their careers, and feel connected to resources to help them learn and grow
Objectively assessing the impact and effectiveness of learning programs. Build metrics to measure their success.
Organizational Effectiveness & Enforcement Of Nearpod’s Culture:
Partner with leaders in creating a culture and work environment that supports the business strategy, encourages employee engagement and inspires performance excellence
Diagnose opportunities to improve the performance of the organization utilizing tools to measure organization effectiveness as well as informal awareness of pulse of the organization
Shape an inspirational strategy drawing on data including people analytics and employee surveys
Consult with various business leaders on enabling team effectiveness, and partner with the executive team on implementing impactful solutions
Ensure actions taken in the organization are aligned to Nearpod’s culture
Be a cultural champion, both as a role model and in leading cross-company initiatives to help scale and strengthen Nearpod’s culture as we grow
Help conceive and execute Diversity & Inclusion initiatives that make Nearpod a better place for everybody to work
Performance & Rewards
Educate, influence, and advocate Nearpod’s performance and compensation philosophy and practices within the business to ensure fairness and consistency and inspire stronger employee and organizational performance
Design and manage competitive compensation, benefits, and workforce planning strategies. Ensure that these programs enhance the company’s abilities to meet objectives and attract and retain a skilled and effective workforce.
Advise leaders in dealing with employee relations issues; Partner with management teams to understand trends in employee performance issues and advise on appropriate remediation
Be the key leader owning high-stakes employee relation issues to manage risk and ensure compliance
Ideal candidate will be:
Able to fly at 30,000 feet in shaping people strategies toward Nearpod’s multi-year priorities and dive down to ‘sea level’ in coaching the team to execute
Emotionally intelligent and able to build strong trust with leaders and employees of diverse backgrounds and situations at all levels
An HR subject matter expert in labor laws and regulations, and have payroll and tax knowledge
Deeply responsible and accountable with a strong attention to detail
Collaborative, marked by transparency and flexibility, with a commitment to building strong teams
An exceptional communicator in both written and verbal interactions; clear, concise, and courageous in giving tough but supportive feedback when needed
Comfortable with ambiguity and constant change, nimble and responsive in the short-term while driving progress on longer-term initiatives
Bachelor’s degree required, Masters or SPHR is a plus
5+ years of experience as a head of the entire HR function of an organization; 15 years of HR related experience
Has experience successfully coaching leaders up to the VP or C-suite levels
Deep and well-rounded knowledge of HR functions and applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
Ability to think and operate at a “strategic level,” but execute on a “tactical level” with the willingness to roll-up sleeves
Proven functional competence across areas of HR, including organizational design, talent and performance management, employee relations, change management, and strategic workforce planning
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to influence others and work effectively in a cross-functional team.
Highly organized and strong project management skills with proven ability to multi-task and juggle multiple initiatives at the same time
Proven business acumen with a demonstrated proficiency managing analytically rigorous initiatives
The ability to translate deep data analysis to actionable deliverables and presentations
Ideally prior experience with a fast-paced, high-growth technology or startup company
M&A experience is a plus
Experience working with remote teams and across diverse cultures
