Our Los Angeles office is currently seeking a Web Developer to join our Digital Insight team. We are perpetual problem solvers and are always seeking new and innovative ways to help our clients bring ideas to life. We create the biggest pieces of hardware and software in the world – bridges and tunnels and skyscrapers all over the world are our MVPs. We are looking for people excited by the potential to use digital thinking to shape a better physical world.
Our growing Digital Insight team combines technology with design to create better cities, buildings, transportation, and infrastructure. We think about technology in the built environment and build it. Our clients include city governments, transport agencies, property developers, property portfolios, infrastructure providers and Arup itself. You will work alongside the best engineers and consultants in the world to deliver tools that continue that push the boundaries of the very discipline of engineering.

The skills and technologies that are most important to us:
  • At least 5 years’ experience using current tools and following current practices in back-end web development or desktop automation
  • 2+ years’ experience with Python and Django REST Framework or Flask
  • Solid understanding of Computer Science fundamentals
  • Best-practice software delivery techniques: Git-flow, Agile, Ace documentation, source control: Git/SVN/TFS
Additional skills and experience that you may find useful and that we would love to see:

  • Engineering discipline certifications, experience, education, training
  • Experience of cloud deployment: AWS, Azure, Google
  • Modern front-end development: React, Angular 6
  • Additional back-end development experience with node.js, Java, or Apache
  • Understanding of spatial applications, data and visualization: PostGIS, d3.js, GeoJSON
  • Understanding of 3D/BIM applications: Revit plugins, Dynamo, Rhino scripting, Grasshopper, IES, Unity, Three.js
  • Understanding of systems deployment fundamentals including cloud, testing, security, continuous deployment and integration, and resiliency
Personal Attributes:
  • Ability to see the data and programming opportunities in Arup’s core work and to translate those into products. Ability to grow business problems into technical solutions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider geographically distributed team, but also an ability to work alongside UX and Product Managers.
  • Strong interest in helping to develop the skills and experiences of a young, skilled team
  • Demonstrated adaptability and passion for staying ahead of the tech curve: constantly experimenting with new frameworks and technology
  • An interest in integrating software systems with complex cities, infrastructure, or engineering challenges. You want to work with us to create a better world.
