Full Job Description
The Risk Manager will coordinate the risk management function for FirstService Residential's North Region including interfacing with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance to policies and procedures and support and execute overall strategy. The role will cover claims management, corporate governance and insurance as well as general risk management and specific projects as they arise.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS include the following. Other responsibilities may be assigned.
Strategy Collaboration: Work with local and national teams to support claims strategy
Service of process: Receive all items served, determine appropriate recipient and ensure appropriate follow up ensues
Insurance claims: Interface with adjusters, brokers and advisors to ensure claims are tendered & acknowledged, following up as needed regarding coverage status
Manage litigation database: Ensure all lawsuits and claims are appropriately captured and updated. Provide required reports from the litigation database and participate in related review meetings.
Manage Litigation: Discuss and implement case strategy with outside counsel and obtain and review status reports from outside counsel to stay informed of the case trajectory
Produce documents: Support discovery process by interfacing with internal staff and outside counsel to plan and manage each discovery project, ensuring that documents are collected and produced on a timely basis
Client Claims: Project manage significant client claims including coordinating with insurance and legal teams, leading discovery process and related documentation and ensure appropriate claim management with insurance carriers
Manage legal documents: Obtain, organize, and warehouse the documents so that they are easily accessible when needed
Support legal projects: Provide support to each project, including research, document review, acquisitions, mergers, entity formation
Insurance procurement: Prepare applications, interface with brokers, maintain current insurance schedules and documents, review invoices
Maintain corporate entity governance documents: Obtain, organize and warehouse governance documents, including resolutions, government filings, state/provincial registrations, officer lists
Business licenses: Obtain and renew company business licenses as required
Other duties as assigned and special projects as assigned

Must be a critical thinker with strong problem-solving skills
Fluent with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Access and Windows
Ability to learn new applications and skills quickly

Able to plan, organize, and prioritize
Able to work under tight deadlines, handle multiple, detailed tasks simultaneously and anticipate needs in advance
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree, Paralegal Certificate or Law Degree
Prior experience managing claims and litigation in Canada and the USA preferred
Prior experience in a legal environment or with litigation preferred
Prior experience in claims management preferred
Prior audit experience preferred
Proficient in English.
