The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) is looking for a Search Engine Optimization Consultant with proven experience to help build and maintain relevant traffic for its internet properties.
ISAC is the state’s college access and financial aid agency, with a mission to help make college more affordable and accessible to Illinois students. ISAC maintains three websites: ISAC.org, collegechangeseverything.org, and collegeillinois.org. The agency also has a presence on social media, with active Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. Except for specific paid campaigns for College Illinois!, the prepaid tuition program managed by ISAC on behalf of the state, ISAC has rarely engaged in paid search campaigns, and most traffic to isac.org, collegechangeseverything.org, and their related social media accounts, had been entirely organic. While ISAC may look to implement some small scale paid search campaigns in the future, ISAC does not anticipate running any consistent paid search campaigns.
This position reports directly to the Managing Director of Communications and will also work extensively with the Information Technology division of ISAC. The position will be primarily located at our Deerfield office.
Applicants should have detailed knowledge of tools such as Google Analytics and Adwords and should be up to date with changes published by Google and Bing. Applicants should also have broad web development experience, as this role will regularly interact with and provide back up for our web developers.
Work with the communications and operations teams to search engine optimize copy and landing pages for ISAC websites and for social media.
Regularly review ISAC websites for SEO issues, perform ongoing keyword discovery, identify and implement optimization.
Work with ISAC web developers to ensure SEO best practices are properly implemented on newly developed code.
Recommend changes to website architecture, content, linking and other factors to improve SEO positions for target keywords.
Assist in development and implementation of any paid search campaigns.
Execute tests, analyze data and results, identify trends/insights in order to improve organic search results and deliver maximum ROI on any paid search campaigns.
Regularly engage with and act as a backup for ISAC’s web development team.

3 years of relevant SEO experience, strategic marketing experience, and mobile strategy optimization.
In-depth experience with website analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, NetInsight, Omniture, WebTrends) and Webmaster tools.
Experience with A/B and multivariate experiments.
The ability to work with back-end SEO elements such as: htaccess, robots.txt, metadata, and site speed optimization.
Knowledge of ranking factors and search engine algorithms.
Proven success in link-building and viral strategies.
Experience working with editorial and content teams to optimize search.
Experience in building in-bound organic search traffic and improving SERPs.
Up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in SEO.
Experienced in creating reports showing web analytics data and site evaluations along with the ability to make the analytic reports user-friendly.
Possess strong oral and written communications.
A self-starter and problem-solver who can work well both independently and as a team player.
