The City of Naperville's Police Department seeks individuals with proven multi-tasking ability for the position of City Dispatcher. The dispatch center is operational 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. This is a shift position, which includes working weekends and holidays; specific hours and schedule are still to be determined. Emergency 911 duties are NOT a part of this position.

The City Dispatcher receives incoming calls related to street, electric, and water utility problems. The dispatcher determines the nature, location and priority of the problem and dispatches the appropriate work crews from the Public Works, Electric, Water and/or other departments. Key duties in this shift position include maintaining contact with (and the status of) units on assignment, coordinating calls, initiating service requests, maintaining service request logs, and monitoring weather alarms. The position coordinates residential electric and water utility turn-offs/turn-ons with the Finance Department, filed crews, the Police Records Unit, and with citizen customers. Related clerical tasks include record keeping, data entry, filing, and updating various databases related to permits, utility locating and contact information.

This position requires knowledge of radio procedures and rules, City Departments and their responsibilities, and strong written and verbal communication skills. Proven abilities to maintain composure in a multi-task, fast-paced environment and to exercise good judgement and make sound decisions under pressure are required. Minimum requirements include a high school diploma (or equivalent) and three or more years of work experience in a related field with significant public interaction. All candidates must possess a valid Illinois Class D driver's license and will be required to successfully pass a polygraph test as well as a post-offer drug screen.
