Job Summary
Provide athletic training services including prevention, diagnosis, emergency care, first aid, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities. Optimize activity and participation of patients and clients of all ages in any physical setting. Provide prevention and wellness services, including screening and health promotion.
Athlete/Patient Care: Schedule and coordinate coverage of training rooms, scheduled athletic team practices, home and away competitions, and events and/or tournaments hosted by contracted schools. Complete pre-competition/practice interventions. Perform initial injury or illness assessment. Develop a plan of care based on the initial assessment that includes athletic training interventions to address short-term and long-term goals, and outcomes. Implement plan of care providing evidence-based athletic training strategies and interventions to address identified goals and outcomes.
Assess and communicate athlete's condition, progress, and playing status to athlete, coaches, parents, physicians, or appropriate health care provider. Obtain participation clearance from the appropriate health care providers when necessary. Document according to best practice, federal and state regulations, and insurance requirements. Interpret and implement provider referrals for athletic training services.
Educational, administrative, and other service responsibilities: Plan and implement athletic injury and illness prevention programs. Develop and implement an emergency action plan. Provide education on prevention and wellness services to athletes, parents, medical personnel, and community members. Participate in community service, public relations, public speaking, and advertising activities.
Monitor function of equipment and assure that equipment is kept in proper and safe working order. Complete continuing education to stay current with regulations, best practice techniques and interventions, and practice ethical and evidence-based Athletic Training according to the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and Board of Certification.
Competencies
- Successful completion of the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer national exam.
- Possess an active BLS Certification. May be acquired at PMC within 6 months after hire.
- Demonstrate computer skills to operate electronic records and basic Microsoft Office Programs.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited athletic training program.
- Must have an active Athletic Training license to practice in the state of Nebraska.
