Under the direct supervision of Director, Cancer Center, the Secretary is responsible for coordinating the daily and ongoing activities of the office and patient scheduling to ensure efficient, effective operations and timely patient flow.
Establishes and reviews patient schedules to ensure workflow is controlled and patient flow time standards are met.
Coordinates and participates in the operation of daily activities to ensure effective, efficient patient flow by timely preparation of patient charts, obtaining orders from physician offices, sorting and distribution of paper work and other routine office duties.
Greets and communicates with patients/families, keeping them informed of wait times/delays.
Communicates with appropriate department and personnel.
Maintains filing system, requisitions, policies and procedures, orders supplies, transcribes correspondence and reports as requested.
Screens and directs telephone communications to appropriate personnel.
Collects patient financial/demographic information and schedules patient appointments, coordinating with office and enters data into computer.
Facilitates resolution of compliance issues related to obtaining pre-authorization, pre-certifications, charging and reimbursement issues prior to patient service.
Collects payments and is responsible for point of collection payments/requests payments in accordance with established policies, accepts and accurately post payments.
Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure.
Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
Other duties as assigned
High school graduate with previous health care experience or medical terminology.
Complexity of Work:
Previous experience in word processing and computers.
