In this role, your communications talent will help shape the brand story we communicate to our 1,500 Starbucks Technology partners, the broader Starbucks partner community and myriad external stakeholders. This role supports our CTO directly, sparking engagement and excitement across a world-class technology team. As part of the Office of the CTO you will be deeply involved in technology strategy development and its subsequent communication. Your abilities to think strategically, embrace agility, lean into ambiguity and lead diverse initiatives are essential on this transformation journey.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
STRATEGY AND LEADERSHIP
Collaborate with Office of CTO leadership team to build and manage a strategic communications platform to ensure audience needs and messages hit their mark and make the impact needed,
Ensure operational cadence of Starbucks Technology communications calendar, working across the organization and with Global Communications to both plan ahead and be ready to respond as changes to the calendar occur.
Work across Starbucks Technology’s three family groups to elevate quality and effectiveness of internal communications around technology services to other business units to ensure successful adoption and integration of strategic technology initiatives across the broader organization
Oversee day-to-day duties of consultants, interns or employees engaged in the communications program to ensure deliverables are produced with desired quality, on time and within budget
Work collaboratively and in partnership with the Starbucks Public Affairs team to identify ways in which the technology story is in service to the broader Starbucks brand narrative
Define and report on communications metrics in alignment with CTO goals and objectives
MEDIA & CONTENT PRODUCTION
Establish style guides, tools and templates for various communication media in support of the business unit, department and CTO, including dashboards and presentations
Produce video content as required by the communication strategy and plan, including but not limited to long-form video capture/edit for speakers series, real-time streaming for
CTO communications, community outreach video, etc.
Manage the development of graphic designs in support of business unit needs, including but not limited to business unit “town halls,” event creative content, branding support, power point templates, flyers or brochures, etc.
Write/Edit content for distribution ranging from CTO emails, newsletters, organizational communications, etc.
Advise and consult on experience design for major department events, and liaise with external communications, media production and event teams.
CTO COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT
Build and maintain a library of executive-level presentations to tell the Starbucks Technology story to audiences ranging from strategic vendors, to the Board of Directors, to business unit leaders across the company
Engage in problem-solving or brainstorming with senior leaders in response to immediate communication needs and produce communications solutions with high-fidelity
Cultivate the “voice” of the CTO through all internal communication channels
Partner with Global Communications to develop communications materials for corporate or external events
Summary of Experience - you have clearly demonstrated experience in:
Communications planning and management (5-7 years’ experience)
Experience directly supporting executive communications, strategic, tactical and incident-driven (2-3 years’ experience)
Internal PR and brand development in a large, complex organization, preferably with experience communicating in the language and memes of IT
Leveraging diverse communications platforms to achieve goals, ranging from email to social media, video to infographics, focus groups to live story telling (4-6 years)
Project management including defining a problem, scoping a solution, building a schedule, managing a budget, leading cross-functional teams
Event Design and Production (3-4 years)
Design and Presentations (Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, MS Powerpoint, Evernote, etc.)
Working knowledge of major social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, more)
