Souder, Miller & Associates is recruiting for an LSIT in our Farmington, NM office.

This position entails both working in the field and in the office. Acting as a Survey Crew Chief you will be responsible for providing leadership and direction for a 2 or 3 man survey crew when performing all types of land surveys offered by SMA. When working in the office you will be assisting the Regional Survey Manager with various duties such as downloading and checking field data in TBC, preparing basic CAD drawings in Civil 3D and preparing the surveyors for the next days’ work. You will also be responsible for monitoring projects in the Project management/accounting system and interacting with the other survey offices with resource sharing.

This position requires a B.S. in Land Surveying or B.S. in related field with surveying course work and a NCEES LSIT Certification is required or obtainable within 6 months of hire.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. Travel to project sites over 90 miles from the home office with overnight stays (reimbursed by SMA) is a condition of employment. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists Regional Survey Manager with various duties including but not limited to: downloading and checking field data in TBC, preparing basic CAD drawings in Civil 3D and preparing the surveyors for the next days’ work.
Responsible for monitoring projects in the Project management/accounting system and interacting with the other survey offices with resource sharing.
Provides leadership for a 2-3 man survey crew.
Prepares neat written field notes, daily records and maintain cut sheets for staking projects.
Performs construction staking activities including slope stake, utility offsets, streets and commercial lots.
Promote and adhere to the SMA Safety Plan.

QUALIFICATIONS
Is proficient with the set-up and operation of instrumentation required for the collection or layout of survey data in the field (includes RTK/GPS, total stations, controllers/data collectors and automatic levels). Advanced knowledge of the calibration of survey equipment on a regular basis.
Has advanced knowledge in the operation of controllers or data collectors including control initialization, GPS OPUS techniques, layout techniques (centerline and offset staking, curve staking intersections, radial stake out and basic error analysis).
Transmits survey data to the proper files in the computer network, and be able to acquire the data for field use. Able to send data to the office from remote locations by laptop and modem on a daily basis.
Is proficient at reading plans and calculating centerlines, stationing, horizontal and vertical curve data, utility locations curb & gutter and curb returns.

Knowledge of survey safety and standard practices.
Ability to travel, including overnight or longer stays out of town.
Must be proficient in operating a computer and computer software related to surveying and data collection. Software programs include Trimble Business Center, Trimble Access and Microsoft Office Suite.
Must be proficient in Civil 3D
Must be able to successfully complete OSHA safety training (including physical); have a good driving record and be able to pass pre-employment and random drug & alcohol tests.
Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record (no more than two citations in a three-year period)
