Position Description
Las Américas ASPIRA Academy is looking for a highly qualified, motivated individual to support our students enrolled in the AVA Program. This individual will be delivering Math and Social Studies instruction across the stated grade levels to students that have chosen to learn remotely. Candidates must have excellent people skills, be self-motivated, and have ability to work well with children and adults. The ideal candidate has experience in and knowledge of Math and Social Studies, can multi-task, is tech-savvy, and exhibits strong organizational and communication skills (verbal and written) and sensitivity to the developmental stages of student development. The educators supporting this program work closely as a team, providing coverage and sharing logistical responsibilities of the program including organization and parent communication.
The ideal candidate should be have experience with Zoom, Schoology, and Google Drive. Familiarity with Seesaw and Eureka Math is a plus.
This is a primarily work from home position with expectations to report to the school building in Newark, DE for certain face-to-face events, professional development, state testing, etc. (~10-15 days per year)
Responsibilities
- Follow the established school curricula to meet academic standards in Mathematics and Social Studies.
- Deliver daily academic, differentiated lessons and implement specific strategies to meet the needs of all students in synchronous settings.
- Working knowledge of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.
- Implementation of Eureka Math Curriculum.
- Be accountable for students' academic growth and achievement.
- Design and implement summative assessments to measure progress towards academic standards and formative assessments to drive instruction.
- Use assessment data to inform curricular and instructional practices.
- Create a positive, achievement-oriented learning environment.
- Reflect on successes and areas of growth as a teacher, seek to improve performance, and respond to feedback.
- Participate in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding their child's academic success.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Fluency in English.
- Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Dual certification and experience in Special Education is a plus.
- Possesses or is eligible for a valid State of Delaware Teaching License (for more information on State of Delaware licensure, please visit the website of the Department of Education at: http://regulations.delaware.gov/AdminCode/title14/1500/1510.shtml.
- Successful completion of Praxis I and II exams (unless holding an initial teaching license from the State of Delaware).
- Meets Highly Qualified status.
- Strong instructional skills and classroom management.
- Ability to reflect upon teaching practices and respond to constructive feedback.
