Under minimal direction, develops labor, equipment and material specifications necessary to accurately estimate costs for complex and technically demanding work requests and budgets. Performs office and field technical work to determine design and customer requirements for electric facilities according to company standards. Meets with customers to assess electrical needs for service, define customer requirements and outline expectations of the construction process. Works with city, county, state and engineers as needed to optimize design criteria for electric installations and modifications. Assists and works with other departments on requests and specialized services as needed to support the company.

Education and Experience Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering; Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Industrial Engineering from an ABET accredited University or an associate’s degree from a technical school or community college in one of the following fields: Construction Technology; Construction Science; Electrical Technology; Electrical Engineering Technology; Industrial Engineering Technology; Mechanical Engineering Technology; Power Plant Technology; Computer Aided Drafting is preferred. A high school education, or equivalent, with the outlined demonstrated skills is required to be considered for this role.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Knowledge of electric distribution facility design and company standards is preferred. Excellent customer service and public relations skills are required. Prefer at least five years’ experience using skills directly related to electric distribution design and technical field work. The position will require constructive thinking to analyze, interpret, or evaluate issues to a prompt resolution and work within short time frames. Skills are necessary in planning, organizing, oral and written communication, prioritizing and team building. Requires proven experience using intermediate math, business writing skills, and technical reading. Preferred candidate will be proficient at operating a computer and corporate software related to the job. Applicant must be a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in an ever-changing environment. Must have the ability to handle stressful situations appropriately.

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to perform the physical activities of the job (includes, but not limited to hearing, seeing, walking, talking, reading, typing, writing, color distinction, depth perception, working outside in adverse conditions, and lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, etc.). Must be able to process information in an orderly manner, apply tact, diplomacy, reason and logic, and recognize consequences or erroneous actions, concentrate on specific tasks and other required functions. An excellent work performance record is required, including good attendance.

Prequalification Training Program Overview: Applicants awarded a position, will have up to two (2) weeks upon entry into the position to complete the Pre-Qualifications Training Program under a probationary status. Successful completion of the Pre-Qualifications Program is required for entry into the Design Technician Training Program.

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
Valid Kansas driver’s license required.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office with field work as necessary to perform the job. Occasional travel to other locations within the Company and overnight travel is required. Position requires work beyond normal working hours depending on workload, project deadlines, and service restoration efforts. Must have excellent work record, including performance evaluations, attendance and sick leave.
