We're looking for a gifted Firmware Engineer to play a vital role in creating and supporting our next-generation Raman, spectroscopy and optical coherence tomography (OCT) solutions. As a company, we work with leading researchers developing new scientific techniques to revolutionize healthcare, security, food security, materials development & processing, and environmental monitoring. Our ideal candidate will have strong experience in embedded C and FPGA development, as well as a good appreciation for system level hardware design. We need someone great, as you will be instrumental in maintaining and developing state of the art spectroscopic systems!

Location: This position may be located in either Morrisville, North Carolina (Research Triangle Park) or Orlando, Florida (Central Florida Research Park). Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain and augment existing C and VHDL designs for interfacing with highspeed CCDs, CMOS imagers and digital image SoCs. Xilinx, Cypress FX2 and STM32 platforms.
  • Develop new designs to integrate new image sensors and add new features.
  • Work with hardware/analog EEs, SW and spectral scientists in a multidisciplinary team to develop new products and OEM systems for specific applications.
  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate documentation in accordance with the Quality Management System of the company.

Required Experience

  • VHDL design targeting Xilinx platforms.
  • Microcontroller Embedded C on bare metal.
  • Experience using engineering processes & procedures
  • Communication protocols (USB, I2C, SPI, BLE)
  • Highspeed digital design using multiple clock domains.
  • Experience using engineering processes & procedures

Preferred Experience

  • FPGA development using Verilog
  • Use of ARM, FX2, TI, STM32 microcontrollers.
  • Board bring up, debug, troubleshoot.
  • Appreciation and/or experience of small signal analog, op amps, PCB design and layout.
  • Experience of Optical systems, scientific instrumentation, requirements gathering.

Education / Skills

  • BS/MS or higher in Electrical Engineering or relevant fields.
  • Strong communication skills and positive attitude to work with engineering, manufacturing, and business teams towards success of products.
  • Strong organizational skills and capability of performing necessary written documentation.
  • Self-motivated to work on multiple development projects simultaneously with moving or incomplete requirements.
  • A desire to help solve problems as they arise and enact permanent solutions to facilitate continuous improvement.
