What is a AVP, Global Auto Risk Management?
Reporting to the Company’s VP, Chief Risk Officer, this position is responsible for guiding and leading activities necessary to identify, research and mitigate Risk for the Assurant Global Auto business, an innovative ever-changing business line operating in over 21 countries and partnering with some of the largest companies in the world. Assurant Global Auto provides vehicle protection services and other auto risk transfer products to consumers through a wide range of distribution channels.
This specific opportunity is to determine and assess the business opportunities and associated risks for the Global Automotive business, establishing guidelines as appropriate. The role will identify and quantify risks across multiple auto products and across different global jurisdictions. The role will help facilitate the interaction between the LOB (Global Automotive) and Assurant Risk Management (ARM), as well as its usage of tools and models developed by the ARM such as the New Business Process (NBP), Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA), and other Governance, Risk Management and Compliance (GRC) tools and their successors.

Work with the Global Auto Team (Business Leaders, Finance and Actuarial) to identify and quantify key risks, including third party-credit risk, portfolio and regulatory.
Recommend and set standard deal parameters and document appropriately. Recommend risk mitigations and contractual terms to minimize Assurant risks and suggest implementation design.
Develop strategies to monitor risk in newly developed products that allow Assurant to compete in a global auto service contract market that is currently evolving.
Research opportunities to assess & identify potential new risks to existing product lines. Continue to monitor internal processes and external threats and opportunities.
Quantify and model operational, credit and financial risks. Develop risk appetite triggers and limits around all key Auto risks.
Evaluate and monitor risk associated with client investment guidelines for client trusts.
Meet regularly with business leaders globally; lead monthly Auto MEDUC meetings and participate in Global MEDUCs to provide insight into Auto clients.
Support business presentations to BRC, IBRC, MCOM and the F&R Committee of the Assurant Board of Directors.
Continue to ingrain New Business Process into the sales culture, aiding in submissions, queries, and flagging support from committees or groups as warranted
Reconcile data coming from multiple systems to help identify operational risk.
Identify, update and escalate key risks in Risk Register, RCSA, or related or subsequent GRC tools

The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline such as Economics, Finance, Actuarial, Accounting, Mathematics, or Statistics.
12 years of experience in Risk Management; Actuarial; Finance; Audit
Ability to synthesize large amounts of data and summarize for executives
Experience presenting to executive management
Pricing and Deal Structure experience with Captives and Trust monitoring
Ability to identify key risks in the contracting process and develop methods to monitor results
Strong commercial acumen; ability to coalesce business imperatives with pragmatic solutions enabling success
Up to 12% travel required
Prior experience reading contracts and other complex legal documents
Strong oral communication and ability to offer defensible arguments in a variety of situations, including adversarial positions
Ability to influence without direct authority
Ability to negotiate with senior leaders
Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures to completion of difficult tasks and assignments
Ability to evaluate facts, identify legal issues and risks, locate applicable legal authority, analyze and understand changing statues and legislation and case law
Recommend and defend appropriate courses of action in best interest of business and Assurant
