Responsibilities:
What you'll be challenged to do:
TranSystems’ Chicago/Schaumburg, IL offices seeks an experienced Civil Engineer to join our growing office of highway structural, roadway, rail, intermodal designers and construction inspectors as an entry level engineer. This person will be a member of our highway division and will assist in various tasks including plan preparation, quantity calculations, geometric design, pavement marking/signing, drainage design, traffic studies, traffic signal design, public involvement, report writing, specifications, cost estimates, roadway lighting, and other related tasks. The individual may also be called on to work closely with other teams on multi-disciplinary projects. The engineer will have the opportunity to work on challenging projects in a unique and dynamic work environment. These positions can be located at the Chicago Downtown office or the Schaumburg, IL office.
Prepare and/or preferably direct the preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules and designs for roadway design projects.
Review project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, client contract requirements, and related specifications.
Be responsible for accuracy of engineering design and plan preparation, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
Show understanding of team management, develop project scope of work, estimate manpower needs, prepare CPM schedules and track project progress.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Perform as a staff advisor and consultant to technical specialty.
Keeps Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.

Assist or participate in preparation of business proposals.
May be asked to participate in non-design engineering activities such as construction inspection and materials testing, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection.
Qualifications:
What you bring to our firm:
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited program
At least 3 years roadway design experience
Experience with Illinois State Toll Highway Authority, Illinois DOT, Chicago DOT, local municipalities, Metra, Class I railroads, or on other Federally-funded projects
Geopak and/or Microstation working knowledge
What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:
At least 5-7 years experience in roadway, bridge, drainage, construction inspection and/or lighting
PE license
Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, construction and field assignments can be severe (i.e. Airport noise, inside factories, construction equipment, jack hammers, etc.).
The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and drive a car. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
