The Medical Services Coordinator is responsible for the protection, care, and supervision of the residents placed at David & Margaret Youth and Family Services while in the care of the medical services department. Under the supervision of the Residential Program Manager, this position is responsible for providing for and carrying out the medical care of the residents in the residential program and helping with the development and implementation of the medical policies and procedures, following all state and county requirements.

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct an intake interview and physical on each resident to determine the immediate health care needs.
  • Provide daily first aid and nursing care to residents.
  • Arrange medical and dental appointments and coordinate transportation.
  • After hours on-call responsibilities for medical necessities.
  • Keep a complete, up-to-date chart on each resident; including documentation of illnesses, immunizations, medications, etc.
  • Consult with dentists and physicians regarding treatment and medications and oversee the administration of same.
  • Be responsible for the ordering and dispensing of medication under the direction of the physician.
  • Maintain dispensary, ordering medical supplies and dispensing supplies to cottages.
  • Over-see the daily administration of medication and treatment that is done by the counselors.
  • Conduct training sessions for counselors on the proper medical procedures.
  • Provide counseling and teaching for residents in health related areas such as birth control, sex education, hygiene and nutrition.
  • Work closely with counselors, social service staff and placement workers.
  • Attend treatment conferences as needed and write quarterly medical summaries on each resident.
  • Be familiar with community resources which can provide services to the agency.
  • Keep up-to-date files on all counselors with documentation of medicine errors. Review medicine errors and write-ups with counselors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

An appropriate nursing degree, LVN or RN from an accredited nursing program and a current license issued by the State of California Board of Nursing is required or Licensed Psych Technician LPT. Have and maintain CPR, First Aid (must be obtained within the first 30 days of employment). Have and maintain Professional Assault Crisis Training (ProACT). Must have a valid California driver’s license and good driving record.

Related Experience:

Prior experience in a medical services department of a residential treatment facility is preferred. Must be able to relate well with others and have the ability to handle crisis situations.

This is a full-time position, and typical work days and hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. However, depending on program need the hours maybe adjusted.
