Prepares monthly financial reports, submits transactions, prepares special reports, and develops re-budgeting documents for contract and grant activity. Works with PIs to provide comprehensive financial plans for multiple multi-year awards in order to maximize the financial resources of each award type within compliance standards, perform analysis of spending patterns and historical trends, and ensures appropriate spending authority and fiduciary responsibility.
Approves expenditures and verifies that transactions for purchases and travel are compliant with Uniform Guidance, agency rules, state, federal, and University policies are met. Ensures that requests are completed in a timely manner; assures that expenditures are allowable, allocatable, and reasonable.
Assists PIs with various phases of contract and grant activities to include proposal development, interpreting grant announcements, ensuring compliance with guidelines, submission requirements, and deadlines. Prepares and revises complex and detailed multi-year budgets and budget justifications that reflect accurate projections of costs based on the research study; calculates correct fringe and F&A base calculations and rates. Ensures that all state/federal and university policies are met. Reviews proposals for completeness, adherence to announcement, and financial accuracy.
Reviews and interprets Federal, State, and local agency awards, guidelines, and policies for compliance. Advises investigators and department personnel of appropriate actions for topics and questions regarding grant administration based on agency rules and regulations. Monitors completion of grant reporting deadlines within the department and assists with grant reporting requirements. Facilitates 3 phases of project close out at 6 months, 3 months, one month prior to end date; finalizes project accounting and assures that project is ready for final review by Sponsored Research Accounting Services.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, as well as the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Experience performing work accurately in a detail oriented environment.
Experience with accounting principals and with preparing, maintaining, and reconciling budgets.
Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
Ability to compile, review, and reconcile data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
Experience with applicable computer applications and basic computer functions to include Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
NOTE: A skills test will be administered during the interview process.
Anticipated Salary Range
Anticipate hiring in the low to mid $30,000s, commensurate with experience.
This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.
