AmeriCorps Summer Individual Placements (ages 18-25) serve alongside natural resource professionals with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge or U.S. Forest Service at the Chippewa National Forest. Each position is focused to help develop the Summer Individual Placements’ professional skill sets while providing expertise and valuable contributions to the host site. Summer Individual Placements receive training, supervision and guidance from experienced agency and Conservation Corps staff, learning hands-on skills in managing natural resources and conducting public outreach.

Summer Individual Placements will be assigned to one of three areas:
-- Visitor and outreach services (Walker or Deer River, MN)
-- Road monitoring, inventory and survey (Cass Lake, MN)
-- Archaeology and heritage resources (Cass Lake, MN)

-- AmeriCorps service position (ages 18-25)
-- Term: May 13 – August 9, 2019
-- Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. typical. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
-- Stipend: $1355/mo
-- Education award: $1566.14 upon successful completion of term

LOCATIONS: Housing is provided by the USFS.

-- Cass Lake, MN with the U.S. Forest Service (Chippewa National Forest)
-- Walker, MN with the U.S. Forest Service (Chippewa National Forest)
-- Deer River, MN with the U.S. Forest Service (Chippewa National Forest)

-- Ability to work outdoors in varied terrain and all weather conditions.
-- Strong communication skills, with the ability to educate and interact with members of the public.
-- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
-- Academic and/or field experience in natural resources preferred.
-- Strong planning, organization, communication and creative thinking skills.
-- Knowledge of GIS software and GPS use preferred

-- 18-25 years old.
-- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
-- Full term of service must be completed in order to receive the education award.
