Job Overview:
Wallace Landscape Associates seeks a full time, year-round Fine Gardening Supervisor to add to our growing Fine Garden Maintenance department. We manage residential gardens in their various stages of growth, from recently installed perennials at brand new constructions to cherished, heritage landscapes. Working with clients and designers alike, our goal is to find the balance of maintaining plant growth that works for the location, the people, and the long-term health of the plants.
This Fine Gardening Supervisor will help carry out this task along with the rest of the Maintenance team at Wallace Landscape Associates. They will take an active leadership role, managing a small crew of 1-2 gardeners and remaining under the direction of the Garden Maintenance Manager. This position holds the capacity for growth and development, with educational opportunities available.
- 2- or 4-year college degree in horticulture, landscape design/build, or related field and/or at least 2 years’ experience in similar position
- Proficient experience required in plant identification, pruning experience, container planting, extensive annual & perennial understanding
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Experience in identifying and diagnosing plant pests and diseases
- Daily activities may include (but are not limited to) weeding, pruning, transplanting perennials or small shrubs, container planting, watering & fertilizing, applying deer repellant, speaking with and taking direction from clients and designers on site, and writing brief descriptions of work completed in a daily log
- Taking an active role in plant selection, annual installations, and seasonal décor designs/decisions
- Operation of small landscape machinery: blowers, chain saws, hedge trimmers, line trimmers, and understand their corresponding safety-first operating procedures
- Ability to lift 50 pounds, kneel, and squat repeatedly
- Valid driver’s license required.
