Corporate Tax Controller

The Tax Controller will lead all aspects of tax operational and technical accounting, global financial reporting requirements for taxes, related governance and internal controls including interface with internal/external auditors and federal, state and local tax compliance. The successful candidate will be responsible for leadership over a team of resources to support the following activities:

Tax Accounting

  • Lead and manage all aspects of global tax operational accounting and control processes;
  • Plan, manage and coordinate the timely and accurate preparation of the global consolidated tax provision, financial statement including footnotes and internal financial reports for management;
  • Develop internal control policies and procedures to comply with all requirements of SOX;
  • Responsible for ensuring key controls are performed as outlined in the corporate SOX compliance documentation;
  • Research and provide tax technical accounting guidance in accordance with U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations or other authoritative accounting literature;
  • Proactively analyze emerging accounting pronouncements for implications to the global PRA Group organization;
  • Assist in the implementation of new accounting standards applicable to the organization;
  • Responsible for updating and creating tax accounting policies and procedures required by either technical accounting, business or internal control changes;
  • Lead and serve as Process Owner for the Company Longview tax provision system;
  • Lead the global tax accounting process improvement initiatives through implementing and improving technology-enabled solutions and improve data and work flows;
  • Manage relationships with stakeholders such as internal business partners within Finance, Planning, Reporting, other Tax Department groups, and external parties such as financial auditors and consultants;
  • Participate in and lead projects from a tax technical accounting perspective that arise resulting from changes in business requirements, business strategy or new tax technical accounting standards;

Tax Compliance

  • Plan, manage and coordinate the timely and accurate preparation of U.S. federal, state and local tax returns which include income taxes, franchise taxes, property taxes, sales and use taxes, licenses taxes and, tax credits;
  • Detail review material transactions and ensure proper reporting on the applicable tax returns;
  • Assist in identifying tax savings opportunities, challenges and issues with tax laws, regulations and positions within an appropriate risk tolerance defined by senior management;
  • Plan, manage and coordinate staff in the timely and accurate response to federal, state and local tax audits, notices and inquiries from external and internal sources;
  • Serve as a key contact for outside tax accounting firms and tax authorities;
  • Work closely with PRA Finance to validate information received by the Tax Department for tax return reporting is accurate, efficient and properly reviewed and analyzed.

Preferred Experience

  • At least 8 years of progressively responsible professional level tax experience at a multi-national and multi-state corporation
  • Excellent knowledge of US GAAP, ASC 740 Accounting for Income Taxes and experience with IFRS and local GAAP
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting and / or finance, Master’s degree preferred
  • CPA required
  • Experience with SOX Compliance within the tax department a strong plus
  • Longview tax provision software experience is a plus
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong computer skills including an intermediate knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Must be able to relocate to the Virginia Beach / Norfolk Virginia area
