Full Job Description

Position Summary

The incumbent is responsible for the operations of the front reception duties with scheduling students, handling incoming telephone calls and assisting staff with specialized needs. The incumbent is responsible for responding to inquiries; screening and directing phone calls, relaying messages, and notifying appropriate staff of emergency situations; scheduling and rescheduling appointments; disseminating information on Counseling and Psychological Services (C&PS) policies and procedures to the general public and SDSU community; providing information on groups and workshops; typing, organizing, duplicating, and filing materials; receiving and assisting office visitors, providing welcoming reception to clients and giving appropriate information or direction; coordinating and scheduling office space and room assignments; collecting and logging confidential information; researching information pertaining to clients; distributing mail; and directing student assistants in the preparation of materials. Must possess strong communication skills; ability to coordinate many different clerical tasks, prioritize, set deadlines, and complete projects accordingly.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2021, with the possibility of reappointment and/or permanency. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires fundamental written and oral communication skills, including a sound foundation in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation; an ability to understand standard office procedures; an ability to operate standard office equipment; an ability to learn office technology systems; an ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; and typing and keyboard skills.

These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through completion of a high school program or its equivalent and some experience in an office environment.

Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills

  • Experience with patient interaction in an office environment preferred or customer service within a large system.
  • One year experience with word processing and computer operations.
  • The ability and willingness to learn software is desirable.
  • One year of training in vocational business school/college or one year of full-time college education.
Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $3,200 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $2,600 - $4,592 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
