The Ground & Communications Division is looking for a Sr. Space Systems Innovation Engineer who will work with multiple government project managers across diverse technology areas to lead the Aerospace support for the development and assessment of advanced and innovative concepts to deliver new capabilities from existing space system architectures and designs and associated ground systems. In this opportunity you will also apply engineering principles to the synthesis of operational concepts from user needs statements; requirements development; design, development, testing and assessment of operational capabilities.
Participate in the evaluation of concepts, architectures, specifications, standards, CONOPS, and interfaces of space/satellite systems and associated ground components related to satellite communications systems including evaluation on performance in terms of cost, schedule, and technical parameters – in accordance with agency-wide guidance, business processes and instructions, and industry best practices.
Represent program office positions in IPT meetings and system interface definition.
Identify and analyze risks and issues, generate recommendations, prepare and review Aerospace written reports and briefing materials in a timely manner, including professional-quality presentations.
Provide independent, direct interfacing with government program office representatives, SETA staff, and contractor personnel.
Work with other program office staff and ETG subject matter experts to provide information to support government decision making through prototyping, analysis, and modeling and simulation.
Some travel may be required.
The position is located in Chantilly, VA.
BS degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Math.
Minimum of 12 years experience.
Understanding of operational planning, scheduling and tasking of national systems and associated ground systems.
Fundamental understanding of communications payloads and digital communications.
Strong written and verbal communications skills.
Demonstrated dependability, self-motivation, communications, interpersonal skills and the ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
Current TS/SCI clearance.
This position requires the ability to have and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
Advanced degree preferred, in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Math.
Progressive technical responsibility in communications system analysis, assessment, design, prototyping or modeling and simulation.
Demonstrated competence and technical acumen in one or more systems life cycle development and acquisition skill areas.
Successful technical contributions for small-to-medium technical demonstration programs as well as operational systems.
Experience with technology insertion into space/satellite systems.
Demonstrated experience in a program office environment and ability to interact with various government agencies, other program offices, FFRDCs, and SETA and development contractors is highly desirable.
Review and assessment of trade studies.
Understanding and use of the Aerospace matrix, software modeling and simulation techniques, and knowledge and experience with satellite communications and associated ground systems is desired.
Familiarity with other spacecraft systems and payload subsystems.
