JOB DUTIES: The Per Diem Nurse, Educational Instructor is responsible for conducting a variety of specific training, and staff development programs for the clinical and non-clinical personnel consistent with regulatory requirements, policies and procedures and needs of the organization to develop and maintain employee awareness of customer service relations and personal growth. In addition, this position assists the Education Director and the Education Coordinators in developing curricula, programs, education and training materials and performs other duties as assigned. This position may be required to work shifts, weekends, and holidays. MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SHIFTS AS NECESSARY BASED ON HOSPITAL OPERATIONS; SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 24/7.

The Minimum Qualification Requirements Are: To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. While not required, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing or Education is preferred.

Experience: One-half (1/2) year of progressively responsible professional nursing work experience in an acute care setting where the employee independently provided nursing care to patients or one-half (½) year of professional nursing work experience as an instructor/educator providing clinical education and instruction to hospital employees. Such experience must have been gained within the last two (2) years. Two and one-half (2 1/2) years of professional nursing work experience as a clinical nurse responsible for patient care in an assigned ward, floor, or clinical area obtained within the previous three years and two (2) years of specialized experience in nursing education, teaching and curriculum planning is highly desirable. EKG-trained and critical care experience desirable.

Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Health Care Worker is required at the time of appointment. Current Instructor Certification with the American Heart Association in ACLS and PALS is required. TNCC, CPI and BLS Instructor Certifications are desirable.

Licensure: Possession of a current license to practice as a registered professional nurse in the State of Hawaii.

Required Forms and Documentation: Applicants must submit evidence of the appropriate training (e.g. official transcript or diploma and certifications) to be given credit for education. A legible photocopy will be accepted; however, Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, Kona Community Hospital reserves the right to request an official copy.
