EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

In this position you will be responsible for overseeing, evaluating, and supporting systems as an Information System Security Officer (ISSO).

Typical duties include:
Serving as senior specialist to anticipate, identify, evaluate, mitigate, and minimize risks for IT security systems vulnerabilities.
Developing and conducting tests of systems to evaluate compliance with specifications and requirements by applying principles and methods for cost-effective planning, evaluating, verifying, and validating of technical, functional, and performance characteristics (including interoperability) of systems or elements of systems incorporating IT.
Reviewing new systems, networks and software designs for potential security risks and resolves integration issues.
Developing countermeasures to minimize unauthorized disclosure of information and ensure data confidentiality and integrity.
Developing security authorization packages while providing guidance on appropriate computer security measures.
Promotion Potential: Future promotions will be dependent on your ability to perform the duties at a higher level, the continuing need for an employee assigned to the higher level, and administrative approval.

Qualifications
The qualification requirements listed below must be met within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

You qualify for this position at the GS-12 level (starting salary $81,548) if you possess the following :
One full year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 level, that demonstrates 1) Developing and maintaining security authorization documentation in support of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) requirements; 2) Performing continuous monitoring activities for Information Technology (IT) security systems vulnerabilities; 3) Implementing security policies by verifying compliance, and establishing guidelines, measures, protocol, and procedures; and 4) Developing and conducting tests of systems to evaluate compliance with Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA).

You must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:

Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
Customer Service - Works with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations.
Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information.
Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information.
