The Position: Compliance Associate

The Compliance Associate is expected to be a key contributor on a collaborative Compliance team with respect to the enhancement and administration of the PSG Compliance Program. The Compliance Associate will play a key role in the drafting and updating of policies and procedures, testing for compliance with those policies and procedures, producing and filing regulatory and client reports, performing marketing reviews and providing regulatory training within the Public Securities Group of Brookfield Asset Management.

Responsibilities:
Assist the Chief Compliance Officer in drafting, enhancing, implementing and monitoring compliance with PSG and client policies and procedures involving registered and unregistered investment companies and investment advisers.
Maintain information barriers, compliance logs, perform testing and establish processes to control the flow of material non-public information to comply with applicable securities laws, PSG policies and procedures and industry best practices.
Chaperone meetings, as needed, with portfolio personnel and affiliated third parties.
Conduct in-house reviews to test compliance policies and procedures pursuant to Rule 206(4)-7 under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940 and Rule 38(a)-1 under the Investment Company Act of 1940.
Monitor client portfolio trading activity against restricted lists, investment restrictions and other contractual and regulatory requirements, and prepare appropriate reports.
Participate on and prepare board and committee meeting materials (e.g., cyber security and proxy voting).
Participate in the development of compliance processes, policies and procedures to demonstrate the existence of appropriate internal controls.
Assist with training PSG employees about policies and procedures and applicable federal securities laws.
Review marketing materials for regulatory compliance.
Prepare regulatory filings for corporate entities and funds.
Draft responses to client questionnaires and checklists, and requests for proposals (RFPs) and requests for information (RFIs).

Qualifications and Requirements:
Bachelor’s or higher level degree
Asset management, capital markets, private equity, securities or financial services experience highly preferred
Working knowledge of Investment Company Act of 1940, Investment Advisers Act of 1940, the Securities Act of 1933, the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and related regulatory requirements highly preferred
Basic knowledge of ERISA, FINRA and Canadian securities rules and regulations including national instruments investment funds and conflicts of interests is a plus
Demonstrated ability to stay current with, and analyze regulatory and compliance program requirements
Strong client orientation with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Able to establish priorities, work on multiple assignments, meet competing deadlines and work in fast-paced and collaborative environment
Ability to demonstrate efficient time management and self-discipline
Organized, thorough, and detail oriented
Ability to collaborate with other teams and business units within the Public Securities Group and BAM on business and regulatory initiatives
Experience reviewing marketing materials is a plus
Experience with third party portfolio surveillance systems, such as EzeCompliance, and third-party proxy voting service providers and their systems is a plus
