The Trustees is seeking a Manager of Coastal Communications who can implement an integrated marketing strategy that uplifts our coastal work and highlights the need for greater coastal resilience planning. The manager should be a marketing, publications, digital communications, and social media specialist who can create content, manage production timelines, and implement communication strategies around the Trustees’ focus on coastal and waterfront issues.
The Manager of Coastal Communications will report to the Chief Marketing Officer and is part of the Stakeholder Engagement team. The Manager of Coastal Communications will work closely with the Program Director for Coastal and Natural Resources, Director of Marketing and Communications, and the Marketing staff. This position is a full-time, exempt position and will be located at 200 High Street, Boston, MA. This position is funded for one year, with the chance of being renewed pending additional funding.
This position will provide direction and oversight for the day-to-day communications efforts and strategies related to our coastal strategy and Boston Waterfront Initiative.
Create an annual strategy for managing the communications channels related to coastal and waterfront activities in order to elevate the Trustees’ priorities around stewardship, resiliency, and advocacy
Write, edit, and produce an annual State of the Coast Report
Work with marketing staff on digital communications strategy
Manage and compose social media content, calendar and implementation
Assist and support press efforts
Manage a “clean the beach” public awareness campaign
Contribute to Special Places magazine.
Provide reports and summaries of all activities and outcomes
Working with the Boston Waterfront Initiative, co-manage a series of events
The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator and strategist with excellent writing skills and knowledge of standard marketing channels. The manager should be technologically savvy, self-motivated, reliable, and flexible.
Additional qualifications include:
4+ years of progressively responsible experience in communications and marketing especially in areas of environmental sciences, marine life, ecology, and coastal impacts
Bachelor’s degree required
Expertise in creating digital media strategies and communications
Deep knowledge of one or more of the following and the ability to learn: Convio, all social media platforms, photography editing and video production
Demonstrated ability to manage many deadlines, projects, and relationships
Familiarity and understanding of communications strategy and best practices
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software applications
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to manage relationships across geographic distances and through a matrixed management structure
Strong analytic and organizational skills; the ability to manage projects and workflow while using time and resources effectively
Strong interest in building audience and constituency
Compensation & Benefits
Salary is commensurate with experience. The Manager of Coastal Communications is a full-time, year-round, exempt position. As a full-time employee, the Manager is eligible for benefits offered by The Trustees, including: medical insurance, disability and life insurance, vacation, sick and personal time, and the option to participate in our 401(k) plan. The position is based at 200 High Street in Boston and requires some travel across the state in one’s own car.
