The Social Ventures team at Per Scholas is expanding its large-scale, customized training effort and has contracted with a large US-based tech services company to train local talent for in-demand tech roles. We are a small, multi-disciplinary team seeking individuals who can ensure the success of this initiative.

Per Scholas is seeking a dynamic, team-oriented individual to serve as a Teaching Assistant (TA)/Student Manager as a summer intern with the possibility of part-time employment during the academic year. The Teaching Assistant will play an important role in our technical training program, as he/she trains Per Scholas students to be outstanding mid-level technicians and works with our lead instructors and leadership to facilitate effective classroom management and student engagement.

As a Teaching Assistant/Intern, you will gain hands-on experience at a dynamic, growing nonprofit that has a real impact on the lives of the students we serve. You will wear many hats and work alongside staff and directly assist and impact our students. The Teaching Assistant will gain concrete skills and experience in Technical Instruction with a particular focus on Network+/A+. Per Scholas is an exciting, fast-paced, team-oriented place to work. This position is full time from May to early August, and you are expected to work a minimum of 30 hours a week and may be required to work in the evenings (6-9 PM) or on weekends as needed. There is an opportunity to continue on a part-time basis during the academic year. As a paid internship, this role is open to rising seniors or graduate students. The Teaching Assistant/Intern will be paid an hourly wage, in addition to the following benefits:

Classroom Support and Tutoring

Reinforce classroom instruction and coursework, following up with students who are falling behind or need additional assistance
Support the instructor on the learning management system (LMS) and help students with questions about assignments during/after class
Support Instructors with scoring of student exams as well as grade LMS assignments for assigned class(es)
Assist instructor with distributing and reviewing supplementary material for students
Using Salesforce, create student metrics and reporting as required by Per Scholas and our corporate partner
Support with the review and development of short term curriculum projects as assigned by Technical Instructor
Additional projects or assignments as needed to support the ongoing operations of our Boston office
Opportunity to participate in direct classroom instruction

Professional Qualifications

Prior experience working in a classroom or corporate setting
Excellent interpersonal skills to foster positive energy and a supportive environment for students
Knowledge of CompTIA Network+ and A+ technical fundamentals.

Technical knowledge of:
Network operations for business environments
Routing concepts and protocols as well as network services and protocols such as TCP/IP.
Network vulnerabilities, security concepts, models, and standards
Microsoft Windows, Apple, and Linux operating systems, preferably both end-user and server versions

Nice to haves:
Knowledge of cloud service technologies i.e. AWS, Azure, OpenStack.
Knowledge of Object Oriented Programming languages: Python, Java, C#, JavaScript
Familiarity with Salesforce, Canvas Learning Management.
