POSITION LEVEL SUMMARY: Cincinnati Children's Employment Counsel provide legal leadership, advice, support, and direction to executives, human resources, and other leaders across multiple departments. Counsel partner to help shape, advise on, and execute organizational strategy through a legal lens. An attorney in this role strategically assists in resolving employment and business issues by identifying legal solutions and recommending a course of action. Regular opportunities in this role include proactively and reactively guiding internal clients across the spectrum of employment, policy, and compliance matters. Counsel examine data and research to advise on defense or prosecution of claims/lawsuits. Your representation of Cincinnati Children's may include interaction with government agencies, courts, counsel, suppliers, and competitors. REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver legal services to support the human resources, business operations, research, and clinical functions for our nearly 17,000 employees
- Provide legal advice on employment, benefits, labor relations, workers' compensation, occupational safety, and compliance matters
- Advise internal clients regarding strategic employment-related business initiatives and legal/compliance issues
- Provide legal review for policies and procedures within designated areas
- Develop best practices for addressing emerging legal and business risks
- Develop, update, and deliver training programs on legal/compliance matters
- Draft, review, and negotiate employment agreements, employment-related contracts associated with clinical and business operations, including physician/professional services agreements, confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements, and purchased services for employment-related business operations
- Develop and maintain templates and enhance employment-related processes, policies, procedures, guidance, and tools
- Engage and manage outside counsel
- Support Legal and Compliance colleagues
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/LOCATION
Required:
- Juris Doctor
- 5+ years of post-licensure work experience practicing employment law
- Maintain licensure to practice law in the State of Ohio
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Employment history demonstrating the ability to make decisions independently regarding complex legal and corporate issues
- Comfortable taking ownership and accountability for projects
- Ability to prioritize and work effectively under time constraints
- Ability to work with others and build and maintain rapport with superiors, peers, subordinates, and external company contacts
- Strong negotiation skills
- Ability to translate legal terms to the business team and other internal clients
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic, detail-oriented, able to manage/coordinate multiple tasks, and able to work collaboratively and successfully with a diverse set of clients and collaborators
Preferred:
- Experience in benefits, labor relations, litigation, regulatory compliance (e.g., OSHA, OFCCP), and/or employment contracts
- Large law firm and/or in-house counsel experience
- Experience with healthcare and/or academic medical centers
Location:
- Cincinnati, Ohio. Following successful introductory period and acclimation into role, hybrid onsite/at-home options will be considered.
