Full Job Description
Special Counsel is currently recruiting a Docket Manager for the Chicago Office of an international law firm. This position will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Chicago Managing Attorney’s Office and will also provide back up support to other offices. This positions reports to the NY Managing Attorney.
Primarily responsible for: overseeing daily assignments, maintaining litigation calendar, electronic and hard copy filing of court papers, case activity docketing and monitoring.
Responsible for understanding and researching court procedural rules and advising attorneys with respect to compliance with procedural rules.
Keep abreast of developments, procedures and rules in the jurisdictions where the firm practices including general state and federal practice.
Participate in continuing education, research and networking to enhance competencies.
Responsible for understanding and using computerized case management system including docketing court documents, calendaring dates and reviewing and maintaining multiple court docket e-mail boxes.
Oversee, schedule and coordinate court runs.
Conduct research and retrieval of court documents in paper and electronic databases using a variety of sources such as Bloomberg Law, PTAB, Westlaw Next and Lexis Advanced.
Assist attorneys with ECF questions and issues and maintain database of electronic court filing credentials.
Draft and update department procedures and manuals.
Responsible for monitoring cases and creating case trackers for cases through Bloomberg Law, PACER, CourtAlert and other vendors.
Resource for attorneys, paralegals and staff as questions arise related to calendaring and date calculations.
Responsible for coordinating service of process with process servers and people searches.
Review key documents prior to filing and submission to courts and agencies.
Maintain knowledge of e-filing procedures and provide training to staff on e-filing process.
Coordinate system upgrades and test systems with NY MAO.
Responsible for special projects as assigned by the Managing Attorney.
Bachelor’s degree required
Knowledge of CourtAlert, PACER, Bloomberg Law a plus
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

Strong attention to detail
Ability to prioritize competing demands under tight deadlines
Develop and maintain effective professional working relationships with colleagues at all levels
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
Ability to work additional hours including some weekends and evenings to meet filing deadlines
