Austin Kidney Associates (AKA) is dedicated to providing compassionate and comprehensive care for people with kidney disease. With 32 board certified physicians and 8 clinical locations, we are the leading organization in Kidney Disease Management within the greater Austin area.
We are currently seeking an experienced Certified Medical Assistant to join our team. The Medical Assistant, under direction of licensed medical and/or licensed nursing personnel, participates as part of the integrated health care delivery team and performs duties under the direction of the Medical Assistant Supervisor. **No weekends or night shifts and we close at 2:00 pm on Friday!**
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Obtain, evaluate, and record patient history in medical file
- Ensure patient charts are updated and complete prior to patient appointment in clinic
- Obtain and measure vital signs and record information on patients' charts
- Receive and process instructions/orders from physicians and/or Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
- Prepare and maintain examination/treatment rooms and inventory of medical supplies and materials
- Assist in the examination of patients under the direction of licensed medical and/or licensed nursing staff
- Explain treatment procedures to patients under the direction of licensed medical and/or licensed nursing staff
- Prepare and administer medications as ordered by licensed medical and/or licensed nursing staff
- Perform routine diagnostic and laboratory tests & may be required to draw and collect urine samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
- Ensure defined quality metrics are met as defined by the AKA Operational policies
- Follow standing orders and provide treatments according to established protocols
- Achieve and maintain clinical competencies as defined by the AKA Operational policies
- Comply with established risk management and safety procedures
- Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Able to recognize and respect cultural diversity of patients
- Able to serve as the communication liaison between patient and physician; capable of documenting patient communication and clinical treatment accurately and appropriately
- Able to recognize and respond effectively and professionally to verbal, nonverbal, and written communication
- Able to follow established policies and procedures
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and the health care team
- Must respect the confidential nature of medical information and maintain HIPAA compliance at all times
- Have working knowledge of standard clinical concepts, practices, and procedures
- Able to work efficiently and cope with emergency situations
- Capable of using experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Have excellent computer skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office®
- Able to read and interpret documents such as charts, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Able to write routine reports and correspondence
- Maintain a Professional demeanor and appearance
- Able to stand for long periods of time
- Strength sufficient to: lift some patients, move heavy equipment on wheels (up to approximately 50 lbs), and to move patients in wheelchairs
- Proficiency in Spanish preferred
Required for this position:
- Some travel in the Austin area may be required
- Current BLS (CPR & AED) certification from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross
Medical Assistant Certificate from one of the following organizations:
- CMA – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)RMA – American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- CCMA – National Health Career Association (NHA)
- NRCMA – National Association of Health Professionals (NAHP)
- NCMA – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

- Newly certified M.A. - $18.00 per hour
- Established M.A. - To commensurate with experience
