Your Role and Responsibilities
IBM Brand Experience & Design (BXD) is responsible for the sophistication and stewardship of the IBM brand across every expression, experience and encounter. We support all IBM businesses, initiatives and objectives horizontally and vertically. Our work crosses nearly every category of creative output: research and strategy, communications and content development, symbols and systems, digital and physical executions, tools and training. We typically work on select, systemic projects that raise standards for both excellence and efficiency. We work both internally and externally with others to increase the modernity, relevance, tangibility and understanding of IBM at work in the world.
We are looking to add an additional, multi-disciplinary Creative (Design) Director to our core team. As part of the IBM BXD team, this Creative Director will work in close partnership with and report to Todd Simmons, Vice President of IBM Brand Experience & Design to advance the modern brand definition and expression of IBM across all applications and every expression. This professional will lead and guide both IBM internal teams and external ones (agencies, collaborators and partners). He/she will help expand the influence and impact of the BXD team and strengthen both excellence and efficiency. While contributing to our overall vision for the advancement of the IBM brand through design, this professional will also personally lead multiple strategic design projects and work streams that are both practical and progressive in nature. This work requires expertise and experience in managing brand identity, visual and verbal expression, concept creation, environments, exhibitions, communications, digital experiences, etc.
Be a strong advocate and expert in the meaning, strategy and expression of the IBM brand.
Collaborate, influence as well as manage through his/her expertise and knowledge of brand and design.
Generate new ideas continually, while keeping an eye on establishing and maintaining the standards of the brand.
Be accountable for the overall success of design projects and experiences measured in specific business outcomes, such as new client acquisition/adoption of a service.
Serve as a thought leader both inside and outside of IBM.
Develop strategies, plans and set priorities.
Focus is a fine art at IBM. His/her strategic sensiblities are the strongest suit. Priorities = Projects, and knowing what to work on, dive deep, is a critical skill of anyone on the BXD team.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Ability to direct, make decisions and deliver multiple projects and programs at once.
Visual design, storytelling and flawless execution. We are a team of active practitioners. We delegate nothing.
Communicating and influencing stakeholders about concepts, principles, criteria and guidelines.
Collaborating with other design leaders and practitioners to push the limits, and looking beyond day-to-day, thinking long-term, while working well within immediate constraints.
Assuming ownership for projects and team—from inception to implementation (end to end)—ensuring utmost innovative work, best practices and standards of quality.
Extensive experience leading design, production and agency partner teams
10+ years art direction, concept development and creative leadership experience
Applications: Adobe Creative Suite (Highly proficient), MS Office, Sketch, etc.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
After Effects and Cinema 4D are a plus.
