The Site RF and Access value stream is part of Systems and Products organization. It is responsible for developing and maintaining the infrastructure for two-way radio communications in Astro, Tetra, and PCR systems.
This is an entry level product design and development position. Engineers in this position will function primarily as a mechanical engineer in large and/or complex team projects, as well as an individual contributor on smaller tasks and assignments. This role would also support method and process improvements on existing product lines. Responsibilities include:
Preparing concept and prototype designs of mechanical systems as well as hands on design and analysis of individual parts and components, that meets customer requirements and expectations, reliability and robustness requirements, manufacturing processes and safety guidelines
Designing and conducting experiments using statistical tools and techniques to confirm analyses, evaluating new or existing designs to conform to product specifications.
Working with suppliers and commodity teams to meet cost and lead-times goals for tooling and piece parts.
Modeling complex component and assembly designs using advanced 3D CAD tools, and interpreting and generating 2D drawings per mechanical drafting standards.
Understanding of tolerances and effects on design.
Setting up and maintaining bills of materials and releasing mechanical prints. Supporting prototype/pilot builds.
Performing mechanical verification tests per products specifications and writing test reports .
During the development phase of a project, the candidate would work closely with other engineering groups, suppliers and the factories in Mexico, Malaysia, or Elgin, Illinois. Some travel may be required.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to perform hand or FEA calculations for stress and thermal is required. Experience in Finite Element Analysis for structural and/or heat transfer applications highly desirable.
Collaborates and works effectively within a team, but able to work autonomously on own assignments. Demonstrates self initiative and follow through on tasks and ability to overcome obstacles.
Ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments.
Generates concise and comprehensive design and test report documents.
Summarizes complex technical concepts clearly.
Good writing and communication skills.
BSME required, MSME a plus.
Working knowledge of typical mechanical part fabrication techniques and design tradeoffs for using them.
Hands-on experience and proficiency with 3D modeling software to design components and assemblies. Experience with Creo Parametric (Pro/Engineer) a plus.
