All applications must clearly indicate how the Minimum Qualifications, if applicable, are met. Provide as much detail as possible under employment history along with the hours worked per week at each job.
The purpose of this examination is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present or possible future vacancies in this classification. For each vacancy, a Department Director/Division Manager has the choice of the applicants in the top group. This list will remain in effect for six months, unless exhausted, superseded by a new eligible list or extended for another six months by the Human Resources Committee.
EXAM INFORMATION – ONLINE COMPUTER BASED TEST
NOTE* Applicants will take the test online via a link that will be emailed to you once the application is processed and minimum qualifications for the job are verified. The exam should take approximately 45 minutes to complete. You will need access to a computer. If you don't have access to a computer you can visit your local library or computers are available in our reception area of the Human Resources Department. Our hours of operation are Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The examination will consist of an online computer based test to evaluate knowledge, skills, abilities and other factors related to successful performance on this job. Email notification will be sent with a link and timeframe to complete this examination.
The exam content as described above may be modified depending upon the number of applicants or other factors that influence the practicality or usefulness of this selection process. Where minor differences in actual test scores do not reflect meaningful differences in ability, those scores will be statistically grouped resulting in a tie among those applicants.
It is the policy of the Oakland County Merit System to hire qualified individuals with limiting conditions in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws. CLOSING WITHOUT A DATE
This is a continuous examination, and applications will be accepted until such time as there are sufficient applicants to meet the County's current recruitment needs. As such, interested persons should make application promptly. Applicants will be tested in groups as they apply. Successful applicants, regardless of their testing date, will be ranked on the eligible list based on their final examination scores. The original rank of persons on the eligible list may change as later applicants are tested and added to the list. Notice of the last date to apply for this examination will be posted in the Human Resources Department and on this posting one week prior to the application deadline. Applications will not be accepted after the posted closing date.
Under direct supervision, performs office duties of moderate difficulty in a computer environment. Provides reception services by communicating with the public. Is familiar with the operation of Microsoft Office software and with software applications specific to a department. Using a computer, searches and retrieves records, inputs data and compares to source documents to detect errors or omissions and corrects as necessary for complete accuracy. Produces memos, labels, envelopes, and correctly formatted documents. Exercises judgment and knowledge obtained on the job, and takes corrective action on unusual deviations from office practices. Utilizes current county-wide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
At the time of application, applicants must:
1. Be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General
Educational Development Test; AND
2. Have had at least (6) months of full time clerical experience.
3. Pass the total examination, including the employment medical, established for this class.
4. Successfully complete the six-month probationary period.
When employed in the Health Division, must submit to immunization as required, as well as to tuberculin skin tests or chest x rays at County expense
When employed in the Medical Examiner's Office, must submit to annual tuberculin skin test or chest X-ray at County expense.
WITHIN CHILDREN'S VILLAGE
Applicants for positions at Children's Village will not be considered if they have been convicted of either of the following:
(a) Child Abuse or Neglect.
(b) A felony involving harm or threatened harm to an individual within the 10 years immediately preceding the date of hire.
Before beginning employment candidates will be required to provide Children's Village with documentation from the Family Independence Agency (FIA) that they have not been named in a central registry case as the perpetrator of child abuse or child neglect. In addition, applicants being considered for hire will be asked to sign a form authorizing Children's Village to request and receive a criminal history check in accordance with the privacy act of 1974.
