Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to join our healthcare team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive mental health care to patients across various settings, focusing on diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management of psychiatric disorders. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the highest standards of patient care and contribute to the overall well-being of individuals in need of mental health services.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough diagnostic evaluations to assess patients' mental health status and needs.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient assessments.
- Provide direct patient care, including medication management and therapeutic interventions.
- Collaborate with physicians, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records using electronic health record systems such as Epic.
- Educate patients and families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies.
- Participate in hospital medicine practices as needed, ensuring continuity of care for hospitalized patients.
- Stay current with best practices in psychiatric nursing and participate in ongoing professional development.
Skills
- Proficient in diagnostic evaluation techniques to accurately assess mental health conditions.
- Strong patient care skills with a focus on empathy and support for individuals facing mental health challenges.
- Knowledge of hospital medicine principles and practices related to psychiatric care.
- Familiarity with ICD-9 coding for accurate documentation of diagnoses.
- Experience in airway management techniques when necessary for patient safety.
- Ability to administer botulinum toxin treatment as part of comprehensive care plans when applicable.
- Experience with infant care in psychiatric settings is a plus.
- Understanding of hospice palliative medicine principles for end-of-life care considerations.
- Skills in cardiac catheterization may be beneficial but are not required.
