The Senior Systems Engineer will serve as the Germantown Systems Team Lead providing technical, analytical, and liaison support for implementing and maintaining classified and unclassified IT systems in line with the organization’s IT strategy. The position scope includes establishing technical and programmatic solutions and procedures as well as creating a strategic interface with Federal program managers.
The Team Lead develops and executes adaptable technology plans that drive achievement of business results including technology strategy development, SAN administration, data center operations, and database management. You will lead an experienced, in-place team to administer and optimize the VMware environment to maximize uptime, system configuration, and accounting of system data and support recovery, integrity, availability, scalability and performance of the virtual infrastructure and related components. Duties include supervising IT Systems team members and supporting activities.
Project management, technical solution development, and staff management.
Maintain system performance by providing for system monitoring and analysis, performance tuning, troubleshooting, system hardware, installation, firmware patching, and VMware software patching.
Configure and manage Windows and Linux operating systems and install/load operating system software, troubleshoot, maintain integrity, configure network components, and implement operating systems enhancements to improve reliability and performance.
Collaborate with support contractors, government civilians, and members of the U.S. military to integrate, troubleshoot, and document global enterprise IT systems
Provide Tier II and Tier III support services to maintain, manage, upgrade, and optimize infrastructure hardware and software
Perform routine software, hardware, firmware upgrades, patches, and fixes
Manage vulnerability testing, remediation and security STIG implementation on servers.
Support cybersecurity audits, risk assessments, account reviews, etc. with technical SME input for systems under our purview
Develop disaster recovery procedures (DR/COOP) including implementation of warm and/or cold site and testing of tier one applications failover.
Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures; contribute to and maintain system standards, policies, and procedures.
Manage Change Control Process compliance through effective configuration management procedures and daily backup operations
Translate customer requirements into technical hardware/software specifications and documentation
Advise on enhancements for government systems design and components; perform critical evaluation and selection of the hardware components of the solution
Proactively identify and correct systems issues, performance, storage, network, application, backup, and recovery
Develop systems reports on the health and status of the systems
Recommend and develop SOPs, Design documents, technical standards, and policies
Document and transfer knowledge to fellow staff through training and demonstrations
Manage systems inventory and asset documentation
Document and update systems architecture drawings and server rack elevations using Microsoft Visio
Present insights, status, and progress to management via clear written and verbal communication
Provide technical assistance, training, and system documentation for users to promote efficient operation of applications.
Active Top-Secret clearance and ability to maintain a DOE Q
7+ years relevant experience in an enterprise IT Operations environment
2+ years supporting classified systems
5+ years’ experience with Windows Server (2008/2012/2016)
2+ years’ experience with Linux (RHEL) operating systems and concepts
Experience with Group Policies, Active Directory, Office 365, and Exchange.
Experience utilizing VBScript and/or PowerShell to automate systems management, deployment, and implementation functions
Experience maintaining and troubleshooting Citrix XenDesktop, XenApp, XenMobile, NetScaler, etc.
Experience with blade and standalone servers from Dell, HP, Cisco, etc.
Desktop image build process and recompose efforts for Windows 7/10
VDI profile management solutions
Working knowledge of system hardening (STIGs, SRGs, regulatory compliance)
Experience with CCRI audits and other cybersecurity inspections
Proficiency with systems protocols such as TCP/IP, AD, DHCP, DNS, DFS, 2FA, Group Policy, ADFS, Azure AD and ADFS, etc.
Thorough knowledge of IP networking, Switches, Routers, and Firewalls
Experience with troubleshooting, proactively identifying issues and driving them to resolution
Strong communication skills (oral and written) as well as the ability to interact with team members, various levels of management, and internal clients with assorted levels of computer experience.

Experience maintaining and troubleshooting virtual infrastructures: VMware vSphere, vCenter, Horizon View, vRealize Operations, NSX, vSAN, vCloud, etc.
Experience managing and operating VMware Horizon and VMware ESXi 5.x, 6.x
Hyper-converged virtualizations platforms
Application Virtualization in a VDI environment
Virtualization environments including cloud based (MS Azure)
Linked clone VDI architecture for VM Horizon implementations
Experience supporting security audits such as Enterprise Assessments and Command Cyber Readiness Inspections (CCRI)
Microsoft Certified (New or legacy MCSP/MCSE)
VMware Certified Professional – 5.0 or higher, Datacenter Virtualization, Desktop
Linux/RHEL (RHCSA, RHCA, RHCE)
Citrix Certified Expert – Virtualization, Networking
Security Certs such as CAP, GSLC, CISM desired
